Henrik has said time and time again that Sean is great for the team and in the locker room but i guess he knows nothing. Maybe the first tour he might have been with some guys but he's lived and learned in my opinion so him being a cancer is a dead ghost to me.

Sucks that it ended this way for Wade but at the end of the day this is a business, I am one of the guys who really wanted to see him do well but that contract was destined to be a problem from the start.

Anyone else shocked that he didn't even get to play 1 preseason game?

That's why at least most of his teammates hang out at his bar now and again. I can't speak for what goes on in the Rangers locker room not having ever been in there. In any case he's one of the more popular players with the fans. Like it or not he's a good hockey player who brings a lot of passion to the team.

Not sure if there was a link posted yet to a story other than Twitter. Spector has a little snippet up on his blog

If Redden were to retire now does he still count against the cap?

I mean, it's hard to imagine him turning down $23M BUT he does have a new baby and I'm just curious what would happen.

Sather has already speculated that he could play in the AHL or head to Europe. I seriously doubt he is going to go to Europe at this point in his life

EDIT:

Saw this on Gross' blog
Quote:
Redden told Rangers general manager Glen Sather he would consider his options over the next few days. However, Redden must report to Hartford (AHL) in order to collect his Rangers’ salary and Sather said Redden would be allowed to play for the Wolf Pack. Redden, whose wife just gave birth to the couple’s first child this week, could also decide to continue his career overseas and the Rangers could wind up splitting the difference of his contract.

If he retires the contract and cap hit are gone. The cap hit would stay if he signed the contract at 35 years old and then retired at 37.

Larry Brooks is probably the most disappointed out of anyone to hear the news.

"But... but... what if Redden outplays everyone in camp?!"

#NYRangers coach John Tortorella will meet with Wade Redden after team returns from Sunday's game at Detroit.

I think he'll opt out of his contract and sign somewhere else for a completely new contract.

Honestly, I won't be surprised if he just refuses to report. Someone will pay him 2.5M to play in the NHL. Maybe in a city he and his wife like. They're not going to go to Europe with a new baby and I doubt Wade wants to ride a bus and play in the AHL for half a decade. He could get a new contract, maybe even a tryout deal before the season starts, for a year or two and if he plays decent hockey get another deal for maybe 3M/3 years at which point he'll have earned ~14M and only lost out on 9M for not reporting to Hartford.

Ah the day we all waited for two long and dark years

When I saw the interview with him during the last game I nearly felt sorry for him, but then I remembered he is making 6.5 effing millions for playing hockey. And I'd do are many, many worse things than playing hockey even in the AHL for that much money...

My money is on him playing one season with the Whalepack, then retiring.

Oh Happy Day!! Spend some time with your new daughter, Wade. It beats playing in Hartford by a long shot. Good luck to you and your family!

Oh, lol at the comments.

This kind of treatment should keep players from signing in New York.
Yeah, because giving our worst defenseman 2 years to actually be good is terrible treatment.

@simmonssteve If the Rangers really want to do something radical, they should put Glen Sather on waivers and send him to Hartford

Had to laugh.

Good, I only want players that think that they have enough jam to play here for the long haul.
