Nor would anyone. You're missing the point. Players are signed by a team to play a specific role. When Lappy signed with Philadelphia, neither he nor the Flyers expected him to be a breakout scorer. That's not his game. You'd be very hard pressed to find 4th liners who put up more than 20-30 pts. If they do, then you promote them to a higher line because they obviously have what it takes to perform other roles than what a checking line's assignments are.

4th lines are checking lines. Throughout the league. Throughout hockey. They may not contribute much offensively , but they contribute more than enough in other ways (Lappy blocks shots like amadman, Shelley can throw massive punches and massive hits, etc.).

4th lines that score are not 4th lines. If you find one, then you are looking at a 3rd line or better.

I'd prefer to have a 4th line checking line with scoring ability.
Lappy had 20 points last year. I'd say that's pretty damn good for a 4th liner, especially considering he missed time, as did Betts and Powe.

The fourth line can defend the other teams top line. If they do that, any scoring touch they have is a bonus, and creates major mismatches for any opposing team.

Sitting Lappy is a ridiculous thought.
he missed the end of the playoffs and the Flyers played fine without him.....

how he becomes un-replaceable now really confuses me???

I think it may be possible, especially if a rookie plays wells and can break the lineup, which I think some of the rookies may be able to accomplish, or at least I hope one of them can do it.
Again, anyone that can do that will not be considered for a 4th line role. They will be bumped up to a higher line.

I'd love to hear who could replace Lappy as well. Few play with as much passion, and few give more than Lappy.

Ice time for 4th lines/4th line players are reduced in the playoffs, barring penalty kill situations.

No, I'm trying to assemble the best team possible, and if that means replacing one player with another of similar defensive ability but with better scoring ability on any line, then I do it.

Yes, certainly if there is a need to have a particular player in the lineup for a specific role or matchup, then you play that player. I suppose if the top 3 lines are scoring enough, then having a stronger, tougher, more defensive 4th line checking line would be the best way to go, for sure.

But, on the other hand, if the top three lines are not scoring enough (defined as 3 or more goals, with the Flyers goaltending -- as an example), then maybe you go with a 4th line with more scoring ability.

So, I concede; if the top three lines are scoring, then I will concur with going with the more defensive and tougher 4th line.

Which is exactly what teams do. Also, the Salary Cap makes it very difficult if not damn near impossible to roll 4 scoring lines. If you do that, you'll be sacrificing elsewhere (either D or goalie positions).

If you want 4 scoring lines, watch the All-Star Game. That's the only place you're going to find it.

If the Flyers could run 4 scoring lines that also play physically, they would. It's just not very attainable.
