actually McDonagh played a hard game. he played well and will most likely make the team this season.

I see the defensive pairings and lineup to be like this..

Staal Girardi
MDZ Rosie
McD Sauer/Valentenko
Semenov

I really like this defense, we have a bunch of very good and YOUNG two way defensman plus add in McD who can be top 4 and Valentenko with his poor mans volchenkov but with a booming shot i think it will be a very talented and YOUNG defense.

No offense but i hate gilroy, yea he has speed and you cant teach that but honestly its all he has and he proved nothing cept that he cant play defense in the nhl. Id much rather trade him and one of our extra forwards that wont be playing in hartford for some picks or a prospect. Theres no way well get a bonafide center for any of our spare parts who wont be on the team at the start of the season but its worth getting something for them.

If I were to guess--keeping in mind I might change my mind after tonight's game the Rangers defense to start the season would be--Staal, Del Zotto, Girardi, Rozsival, McDonagh, Eminger and Sauer.

The Rangers like Semenov but he's unsigned. If they think McDonagh and Sauer can both play--they might as well go with them. They both are signed, they both are young, they both are physical enough, they both are stay at homes. Semenov is an unsigned, older physical stay at home d-man.

i guess i can get behind the idea of two rookies on D....its not like i'm expecting much out of the team this season outside of developing our own. would love to see 2/3 of sauer/valentenko/mcd make it with a vet in the #7 spot in case we are pushing for the 7 or 8 seed. i don't want to see gilroy on the roster come opening night, i feel like the aforementioned 3 have higher ceilings...plus i prefer my bottom pairing guys to be more stay at home.

(i'd prefer semenov as the vet, eminger's cap # is too high for my liking and exelby isn't what i'd call "steady")

That's how it is these days though. Dmen are extremely overpriced on the open market and there are only 1 or 2 really good players per offseason. I'd like to see McDonagh make the line up....but man our defence is really really young.

McD and Sauer

Especially since Sauer has to go through waivers and I do not want to loose him

Going to the game in Detroit tommorow. I imagine I will be seeing another round of McD and Sauer unless they are morons and send down Sauer after 2nites game.........he got cut early last yr

LoL at this poll being made before 99% of the board even ever watchign Valentenko play a game. After one period i'll take Valentenko if he plays like that all the time.

Anyone think we'll carry 8 d, atleast to start the season? Mcd, Valentenko, Semenov, and Gilroy.

he's only 23, has a 2 way contract. why does he need to clear waivers?

nah no chance. They have to make tough calls,. I think 2nite weeded out Eminger and Exelby which is a good thing

now they have a few more games to see what they want most

thing is everyone brings something.

Gilroy brings offense. looked good on PP 2nite
Valatenko brings and edge we dont have and a hard shot
Sauer is just steady, plain and simple
McDonaugh ,former 1st rounder with the most overall talent

Very impressed with Valentenko's play tonight. Man the Scott Gomez trade just keeps getting better.

I remember how a bunch of Montreal fans were saying that Valentenko was never going to play in NA and how Tom Pyatt evened out the trade.

Pyatt is a nice plugger for sure but not more than a 3rd liner and we have tons of that.................Valatenko is a Dman that we dont have. Going to be tough to cut him. Hope he plays in Detroit tommorow. I imagine Staal, Girardi, McDonaugh, Sauer, Valatenko, Gilroy

May as well play the guys battling for the 5/6 spots

I hate to say this but if Sauer goes on waivers, watch out for Phoenix. He's a Maloney fave and the Coyotes could use a defensive defenseman.

Does Sauer really have a chance to make the team?
