Knowing our luck, Holmgren is calling Sebastian Caron back.....

Holmgren probably has a plane ticket to Mother Russia to bring Robert Esche back.

If Leighton is hurt and the go with Bobrovsky.

I am gonna be excited but we all know it has a chance to ruin him if he doesn't do good.

So basically there is two ways this could work out.

1. Bobrovsky does good and earns the job and is legit.

2. He gets beat up and delays his development or ruins him. Than we have to wait for Eriksson

This is an example of tempting fate.....Leighton is just not meant to be a starter on this team and Holmgren refused to "get it." If in fact this injury was known before the signing then his decision supposedly based on "loyalty" to resign Leighton will really look ill-advised considering how many free agent goalies that were more tried and tested like Mason, Ellis, Turco etc were available at bargain basement prices practically. Instead, Holmgren didn't even allow for "market forces" to dictate the price of a career backup journeyman goalie who may or may not have a nagging back injury. Anything with the back especially as a goalie who is already challenged athletically in net is just not looking too promising. Although I'm pulling for Bob this situation is just par for the goalie drama we've had to endure. Now we possibly can't let a promising goalie develop at a more ideal pace. Luckily Bob has good mental fortitude but still I'd prefer he work out whatever kinks in the north american game he has in the AHL for at least half a season. But our goaltending situation continues to be a soap opera...

I just checked this thread. Rofl. So Leighton may have been injured all summer long and possibly when Homer signed him?

So, Homer outbids (and thus overpays) himself for a crappy goalie before free agency even begins despite the fact that the market is over saturated with goalies.

And to top it all of he might have known he was injured when he signed him?

This is just too much fail.

Sorry guys but Boucher is gonna be the starter. No way do we rush Bob's development. It could ruin him in the long run. Let Boucher start a few games and have Bob back him up.

Late Sunday afternoon update:

Quote:
LEIGHTON UPDATE (4:30 pm): According to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, goaltender Michael Leighton had an MRI on Sunday and the Flyers are awaiting the results. Holmgren said they will know more on Monday. Leighton re-aggravated a lower back injury on Friday night in the Flyers' preseason win in Toronto.

Whoops. No people, I wasn't being serious (when I am I cite the source).

We should all know by now though that any injuries you should tack on a good 5-6 weeks to what was originally thought. See: Parent, Ryan.

I don't want to "rush" Bobo, but he is 22 and not some 18 year old kid needing the AHL.

I think it would do some good for him to play at least some time in the AHL, but if Leighton is injured, then we should give him a shot at some NHL games. This show him that the organization has some faith in him.

Playing 5-10 games wont make or break him. It is not like we are going to give him a full 60 game load right off the bat.

I sure hope the leave Bob as the backup so that they don't rush Backlund back from surgery so that he re-injures himself.

So, Homer should have just looked it up on fate.com then, under the 'meant to be' drop down list?

What is with all of the interest in Theodore? Doesn't the fact that not a single other NHL team (including Minnesota who just lost Harding for the season) has expressed any interest in him tell you something?

What does Leighton have to do with Theodore? Leighton put up good numbers for the Flyers last season, thus Homer's interest in re-signing him. Not a single team has expressed interest in Theodore, including his own (who will go with Varlamov and an unproven rookie Michal Neuvirth) and a team that just lost their backup for the season.
