Dallas-Colorado

I keep hearing and reading about how dallas is in dire need of a right handed winger in their top 6, and colorado is in dire need of a left handed winger in their top 9, so why dont the two strike up a deal.

Dallas:
Chris Stewart

Colorado:
James Neal

Both are promising power forwards in their early 20's, who just recently signed two year contracts.

What would have to be added for this to work?

Flame away.

Doubt either team considers it. Very likely rather just keep their own home-grown talent.

How so? Mueller, who's right-handed, suffered another concussion just now, so it's not like our Top 9 is flooded with righties.

And MANBEARPIG stays in Denver. The mountains are close...

Absolutely nothing because this trade would never happen under any circumstances in the next 5 to 10 years.

Now kindly keep your thoughts to yourself and never speak of James Neal again on this forum.

And you heard this from who exactly?

Neither team considers this for even a second

This is so bad on so many different levels

1) They're in the same conference

2) They are somewhat comparable rivals. Not huge monster rivals, but Dallas is pretty close to Denver in location

3) They are both large pieces of the youth foundation on both clubs

4) They both just signed contracts

5) For young rebuilding clubs with arguably little fan interest (Avs attendance numbers have taken a hit and Dallas lowered their prices last year I believe), you would alienate the fans even more by pulling something like this. Neal's a good player - maybe even going to be a GREAT player, but extremely casual (rarely follow the team) Avs fans wouldn't know much about Neal and I'm sure vice-versa in Dallas. It's not at ALL a slight on Neal or Stewart...but it's 1-2 additional years of fans accepting a new player on the team that's going to represent it for the next 5-10 years...Why re-start the clock when you've already got a good young player on each club today?

dumb stupid trade, maybe when they both were RFA and neither wanted to stay, but now that they just signed, why trade them?

For my money, Neal and Stewart are the two most comparable young players in the game. I don't think that lends itself to a trade now that both are under contract (aren't they even being paid almost the exact same?). Both teams would be ecstatic to have developed either guy, so as things stand a trade just isn't very likely IMO.

I don't think either team does it. Basically it is a lateral move and contracts are pretty much identical. Why would you trade a guy you drafted and a fan favorite for a similar player?

As an Avs fan I say no. I love Stewart and I think most Avs fans feel the same way.

It's like trading Richards for Getslaf... makes no sense. They're arguably equally effective and both Neal and Stewart are quickly turning into fan Favorites on their team...

It makes sense as they're equally skilled, and admittedly I've often said how Dallas needs more right-hand shots.....but I still doubt this would ever happen.

Eh? Trading your top winger for another teams top winger makes sense how? How does this fix your teams hole without opening a new one?

Dallas has Benn, Morrow and Neal on LW, although Benn's being groomed as a center. Only Eriksson is on RW, although he's left-handed. Trade Neal for Stewart, and you have the following top-6:

Benn-Richards-Eriksson
Morrow-Ribeiro-Stewart

Makes sense to me, but again, it's highly unlikely.

It's a money top 6 to be sure, but it turns the 3rd line in Dallas into more of a checking threat than a scoring threat.

Brunnstrom Benn Ott is speed, skill, toughness, defensively sound and a very legit scoring threat as a number 3 unit. I think we will be very impressed with the type of force Benn will impose in the dirty areas as a raw goal scoring centerman. I'm very excited about this line.

I was thinking more from a Colorado view point.
