If he's 'perfect' cause he won't complain when he's not playing...well, I think that says alot about him.
Personally, i'm not a big fan...but I don't necessarily have an issue with him either. He's pretty inconsequential if you ask me. I just don't see what added value he brings to the team.
also, I think Moen is fine...he just needs support, which is why I'd like to see White make the team. While neither he or Moen are exactly heavyweights, I think together they could support each other by playing physical on a 4th line.
that could be a tough gritty line to play against
i wouldnt mind seeing this lineup, at least for a little bit
I'm happy that he'll start the year in the AHL, and get call up opportunities as injuries happen.
White is a talented young player, who figured out 2-3 years ago that he needed to work a lot harder. Not making Team Canada as a Junior hurt him a lot, he had the talent and the numbers to be on the team, but his conditioning, or lack thereof, really hurt him.
Since then, I've only heard good things about his work ethic, and the effort on the ice is plain to see.
I think this kid really has a shot at being a solid NHLer, and I wouldn't limit it at 3/4th liner. His AHL production jumped from .36ppg to .55ppg, and I'll bet he makes a bigger jump this year. He has solid offensive tools, and is honing his defensive game, plays a tough game and has leadership qualities.
I think at worst he'll be a great bottom 6 player for us down the road, but I think he has attainable upside even greater than that. I could see a Brendan Morrow/Shane Doan type high end potential for him, but that's looking 6-7 years down the road.
in any case, he's a player that i'm glad we have, and I hope that we keep and slowly integrate into the roster
With the hiring of Halpern, there's not much room left for White, which is unfortunate, really. He's gonna have to wait for someone to get injured or for mid-season when Martin may decide to make drastic changes.
Loved Ryan's play in the post season last year, Marting relied on Ryan White for pk duty, and I really like the energy he brings to the game. I really hope he makes the roster imo he deserves to be there.
There's no point in rushing White. Let him play one more year in Hamilton, next year he'll be even better.
Last year, I wanted White here instead of Pyatt and especially ahead of Darche.
Even though he needed to work on some things (like the others), he brought something we very much needed, a bit of toughness and hard grinding.
I never understood the re-signing of Darche, but seeing that he is with us, I see no point in him starting the season here. He should be in AHL, we don't need him. IMO, Pyatt should be the one sitting out, or Halpern.
With the way Lappy came into his own in the POs last year, I think he really understood his role. He won't be going anywhere unless he really stinks it up.
Although Moen doesn't do much, he adds a big body presence and never really hurts the team. He's a decent checking player.
I would give a spot to White without hesitation. He brings an element we very much need. But right now, it's training camp and he's fighting for a spot. It's normal that he plays with a huge fire in his eyes. But it might be different when he makes the team and plays more regularly.
But I think he, Pyatt, Halpern and Boyd should all alternate for us until three of them really stand out.
I wouldn't be surprised if the organization decides to go with the players they had already identified as their 13regular players though.
But personally, I would take White on my 4th line to start the year.
I really, really want White on the team to start the year but there's no damn room. My guess is that he'll be an injury call-up and maybe get a PK Subban style call up towards the end of the year and stay up for the post season (knock on wood!)
Then, next year once Darche and Halpern's contracts are up, White finally earns to slot.
This is the 4th line I want NOW though...
White - Lapierre - Moen - Wrecking crew!
Gauthier signed Jeff Halpern though, so... yeah.
Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Cammalleri
Eller - Boyd - Pyatt
White - Lapierre - Moen
I think this would fix a few problems ; if Kostitsyn or Pouliot struggle, Eller could be switched with them and it gives the bottom lines more toughness and grit. I'd also like to fit Pacioretty in somewhere too, but... where??
