What's going on with Maroon?

I'm from St. Louis and usually try and keep up with how Pat Maroon is doing. Doesn't look like he's gotten a chance in any of the Flyers preseason games yet. Is he hurt? Are their issues with him? This kid is so talented and I know the Flyers are stacked but it would be a shame if he doesn't get a shot somewhere. Any info is appreciated.

Tim

He just must have been bumped on the depth chart. Actually think he's eventually going to be in one of those random trades where both teams give up on a prospect and trade him for someone else's.

Agreed.

Perhaps he will never make the jump from AHL to the NHL.

Well he hasn't even got a chance to play in a pre-season game.

My guess is Wellwood passed him in the depth chart?

But i bet he will see some action in a game here soon.

The flyers like Wellwood an awful lot. He has passed Maroon on the depth chart.

Wellwood really has some wheels. He looks quicker than he did in juniors.

Have no idea. Both him and Legein (who I think are probably our two forward prospects with the highest ceilings) aren't being included in this pre-season. No reason has been given so we just assume they've been bumped down the depth chart for whatever reasons.

I'm also a bit dissapointed that we haven't seen him yet. I played against him in high school when he was still "Fat Pat". As a former Knight, I thought for sure they'd suit him up for the London game.

It is a bit perplexing why Maroon and Legein haven't gotten honest shots this summer. I understand they kind of know what they have in those 2, but I dunno...

The Flyers are certainly sending some messages about 'How to spend your summer.' The guys who spent it in NJ training with McCrossin are still around. The guys who spent it playing roller hockey or doing whatever it was Legein did all summer didn't get into any games.

You'd have to see their conditioning results to really know.

"I'm sure Pat has a bright future in ball hockey,' Holmgren might have said.

Carter gets to play in his hometown, and Rinaldo dressed for the London game too and he got traded to Barrie last year.

this was my thinking as well, there seemed to be number of articles written about how several of the newer Phantoms got an apartment near the training facility and went to work over the offseason, I believe most of those guys are still up with the Flyers and have been getting into the game. I'm sure that Homer told the guys if you do this we will make sure you get a long look.

Meltzer's take:
Quote:
Did anyone else raise an eyebrow that the club sent down Patrick Maroon and Stefan Legein without either player dressing for a single preseason game with the big club? I interpret it this way: The organization is sending a message to the two players that others are higher on the depth chart now (Testwuide, Holmstrom, Nodl and Kalinski) and they had better impress with the Phantoms if they are going to earn a callup.

This is especially true for Maroon, who entered camp last year being promoted by Holmgren and former coach John Stevens as a player with a shot at cracking the big club. Injuries and a so-so second AHL season pushed him down a peg on the depth chart last season, and he did little to stand out in the rookie portion of training camp to stand out as a player set to challenge for the big club.

He really hasn't shown that he has made the jump from juniors to the AHL. His goals and assists are down about 50% from his junior numbers.

I'm not shocked at those numbers - most players' numbers take a hit going from junior to AHL/NHL, he played for a junior team that encouraged the offensive side of the game while paying scant attention to defense (and in a lot of cases, he was out for the full 2 minute PP), and he had injuries last season.

Hopefully he turns it around this season, and earns a callup. Legein as well, but he's in tougher because there are more experienced players of his type ahead of him.

I saw him and a bunch of Phantoms eating hot dogs on the concourse during the first intermission of the game last Tuesday.
