Hmmm...here's something interesting...

Say New Jersey trades a first round draft pick to another team...and then selects that draft as the draft they forfeit their first round pick. So the other team is screwed! Haha!

There will be 248 draft picks (if they forfit both in 2011) or in two drafts there will be 249

Cormier - isn't he done for the year with an injury? A lot of ??? around this kid, good luck to him.
1st rnd pick and swap of 2nds with the Thrashers - Devils drafted well this past year, who did the Thrashers take with NJ's pick? Was it Tyler Hall???
3rd to NHL 2010 - ok gr8 who cares
1st to NHL 2010or11or12or13 - mmmk that hurts
$3mil fine - sucks to be Jim Vanderbeek
$100mil contract - great cap hit, sucks to be Jim Vandermoneybags...?

Being able to watch Parise-Zajac-Kovalchuk for the next 82 games...

Priceless!!!!
Okay, I think Oduya is worth a fair bit more then that...

He's a good defenseman, no doubt, but he's hardly spectacular and would be in the Bryce Salvador Camp for Slightly Overpaid For What They Bring Defensemen if he were here this summer.

Bergfors + picks are a huge loss, but not for the return. The rest are sweeteners. Cormier was kicked out of the QMJHL for a vicious elbow that sent a player into convulsions (not Lou's type of player) after being the centre of attention during the WJHC for doing this in practice games to other teams.

The 2008-09 Oduya was worth more than that, the 2009-10 Oduya, not so much. For some reason he seemed to take a step backwards last year after improving his play greatly the year before. Not sure if it had anything to do with his new contract or not, but getting rid of him at $3 million a year was seen as a good thing by most fans.

Such a double standard here.

Marty carries the team.
Marty's getting old and is losing a step.

Which is it?

Marty carries the team and Marty is getting older.
One day Marty will not be able to carry the team hopefully he will not have too.

We won our division with Scott Clemmensen playing 40 games. We'll be fine.

Forgot to mention "A player to be named later"

As they still have to move someone to fit under the cap.

That said, not knowing what was going to happen during the summer, the first part of that transaction (the original deal) is a no brainer.

What happened after the fact sucks, and I'm sure that the Devils would prefer it not to have happened, but I feel confident when I say that all of the assets mentioned about (the picks and the players and prospects) will never be as valuable to the NJD as Kovy is today, will be tomorrow and probably will be for at least the next 10 years.

While I think that they (in total) gave up more for him than I would have, they will remain in the upper portion of the standings for a long time.

With or without the picks.

Oduya is not worth more than his $3.5/2 year contract to the Devils, to Atlanta maybe but not to the Devils. Prior to getting resigned he was certainly worth more than his original contract which is why he got a great deal!

But then he got injured and it turned out that it was a good salary dump for NJ when the original deal was made as Oduya was replaced by Andy Greene.

Are Devils fans worried at all that *if* Marty slows down and *if* you indeed end up dealing away JL that you could as a result of signing Kovy end up closer to becoming what ATL was then the championship caliber team that you have been?

Just curious and no, not trolling.

And *if* the Devils sell no tickets at all this season, the team will go bankrupt and never win another Cup.
