Was anyone else impressed with Kris Newbury?

Just wondering if it was just me. All night I was like, who the hell is that #45, his game looks so strong...then when I found out it was Newbury I was like...who?

Kid looks like a strong skater, and plays well in all 3 zones.

I thought he looked like somebody that wanted to make the team. He looks like he can play the game. But given all his pro experience and his age, he should be competitive out there. I think he'd be good in Hartford and if he showed the consistency, he wouldn't be a bad injury call up if nobody better was available. But I wouldn't say I was impressed with him in the sense that I think he has any chance to make the big club.

looked fine, but he's old and is AHL fodder

another guy who will likely never make it in the NHL and certainly not onto this years Rangers squad

not really impressed at all. i liked when he went after Parise and then beat down Salvador but I didn't really notice him contributing much else. He should have a great career in the AHL but not seeing a lot of potential at the moment.

There's a reason his AHL salary is $250K per year.

oh im sure...but he still impressed me...looks like he could be a good energy 4th line player on an NHL team...at least based on this EXTREMELY small sample size.

So you were impressed by Newbury and thought that Aasen was horrendous? Seems... peculiar.

I agree. he plays a tough gritty game AND it seems like his positional play is very good. Saw him play a bit for the Leafs and he def thinks the game well for a player with a below average skill set.

Ya Newbury as well as Kennedy were impressive and should have a good shot at making the team. On the negative note, White and MZA did not look good at all.

Back in the day I thought Newbury was going to be a player in the Kris King mold. It never really materialized and I just think we have too many options for the bottom lines for him to have a serious shot.

he looked slow to me and didn't really stand out at all other than some of the physical stuff. Kind of irrelevant, lots of better options on the roster than him.
