x 20.

Get well soon, Lappy. Hopefully he can come back, but after what he suffered maybe he might be better off retiring.

This is gonna hurt the moral fiber of this team in a big way.

Wow. Who'd have thought taking slap shots to the face would have long term effects?

I don't want him taking needless hits until crunch time anyway, so holding him out for a few months sounds fine with me. Let him get good & hopefully he comes back when it matters.

Moral fiber? Was Lappy the only thing keeping the rest of the team from murdering old ladies and blowing up daycares? Damn, we really need him back soon, for the sake of the greater Philadelphia area.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him retire. He's already said that if he can't block shots, he's going to be useless and he'll wanna retire. I can't imagine he'll willingly go in and block shots with potentially his face again after going through post-concussion syndrome.

Can't think of any of our prospects that are big shot-blockers or even PKers.
those guys dont have the heart that Lappy has sure they CAN block shots but no where near like Lappy does.....Lappy dont care where it hits him he blocks it.....we dont have ANYBODY with the character he has......we need to clone him lol

Too bad. We'll have to wait to hear more. I'm sure it will come out that he had all the same symptoms in the playoffs, but played anyway - and blocked shots.

I think we all knew he was not healthy. It was clear he wasn't himself - which is why he got really limited duty in the finals.

If he's not right, he should sit until he is. Even if that means two years on LTIR, it's better for the team than the retirement cap hit.

Holmgren's quote (source: Tim P.)
Quote:
Laperriere, meanwhile, approached the Flyers' GM Saturday and expressed concerns about his physical state.

"He never let on over the course of the summer that he was having effects," Holmgren said. "But in my talks with him Saturday, he said he wasn't completely honest about how he felt."

I just saw a tweet that said he played with the brain contusion. It was still there but had stopped bleeding. Why on earth would he have been cleared with the contusion still there???

Edit: DNFlyers: Interesting. From Holmgren re: Lappy: "Before he played last year, the spot [on MRI] didn't go away but the bleeding had stopped."

I guess Nodl/Holmstrom/Powe take his place. There goes the best fourth line in the league

Betts should be back soon, Carcillo is still an option for the fourth line, and we have plenty of capable of AHL guys.

We still have the potential to have the best 4th line in the league. I've been hoping that Kalinski could get a permanent spot for a while now.

Friday of this week, he has a return visit to his doctor in Pittsburgh.

Carcillo just made the team as I see it. Guerin, sadly, already made the team.

Guerin-Richards-Carter
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JVR-Giroux-Zherdev (can switch Zherdev with Guerin and vise versa)
Shelly-Betts-Carcillo

Huh? Guerin isn't signed yet and Carcillo has always been on the team.

Othen destroying a guy in preseason, Kalinski hasnt really showed that he should be considered over guys like Holmstrom/Powe and even Nodl

Wanna make a bet Guerin is signed? Carcillo was gonna be the extra this season if Lappy played. Hate him or not, Shelly was gonna play on the 4th line.

Every single time he's been called-up he's shown great ability as a 4th liner. He's far past his due date.

Kalinski also plays center and the Flyers havent shown that they will use him on the wing. If I had to make a bet, it will most likely be Powe who takes the spot over (if an injury occurs)

I think management see's Holmstrom over Kalinski at the moment (hense why Holmstrom has centered lines from the 2nd line to the 4th in the 3 preseason games he played)

Concussions especially brain contusions are not to be trifled with. I have a minor concussion last year, my 6th. And i had PCS symptoms for 3 months. He had bleeding on the brain and missed maybe a month? At some the doctors have to say, no. Anytime you break a sweat it triggers the symptoms again, and you can't play through it. Ask primeau

This sucks. Lappy quickly became one of my favorite players. I hope he recovers soon.

I just can not see forcing Carter and Richards together just to keep the Hartnell-Briere-Leino line together. Maybe they move Giroux to the wing, but certainly not Carter.

JVR-Richards-Zherdev
Hartnell-Carter-Briere
Leino-Giroux-Guerin
Carcillo-Powe-Shelley

Betts to replace Powe, Lappy to LTIR

PP1
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
Carle-Richards

PP2
JVR/Giroux-Carter-Zherdev
Timonen-Pronger

Mad Props to Laperriere for risking his body for the good of the team all throughout his career (not just for the Flyers). Laperriere is a true pro, but he still needs to think about his life after hockey. I feel bad that Laperriere won't be able to contribute directly on the ice because of what he has gone through, but he can still impact this squad in positive ways as a "consultant" or assistant coach.

What is the point of making all that money and having all that glory of being in the NHL if you have to spend that money on hospital bills and CATscans post retirement. Best of luck to Ian Laperriere, a hockey player in every sense of the phrase.

Lavy already said he was keeping that line together for the beginning of the season. Trying to think realistically here. I have a huge hunch that Carter is gonna start off on the wing to begin the season. Lavy is going to go back to the Briere line hoping there is still magic from playoffs. Hey, if I was a coach, and that was your best lineup during the postseason, I guess Id go back to it also.

Somebody get Lappy in touch with the people who helped Gagne.

Truthfully, I love Lappy, but I don't want him playing if it will seriously jeopardize his short and long term health.

Get well Lappy5000
