This does look like a precursor to retirement. As short as your stay might have been Lappy, you really made an impact. Get well for you and your family's sakes!

I guess. I just dont see them being successful in the regular season.

It wont be long before the lines change to something close to my lines anyway.

Yea. Half the lines dont stay together anyway. Flyers are always known for never keeping a line together. Maybe Lavy changes that thinking, but since we always get hit by injuries the chances of them staying static are slim to none.

Losing Lappy hurts. We should just throw him behind the bench for morale.

**** Guerin we need. How in the world is he going to fill in Lappy's spot. We need another Pker.

How is Betts coming along?

I haven't read through this entire thread so I'm not sure if this has been stated already, but Glen Macnow on 610 WIP said Lappy lied about his concussion symptoms during last years Playoffs so he could make it back for the Cup Finals.

Its really a shame that decision has apparently come back to bite him, hopefully it doesn't end his career.

I heard a few folks saying that, both before and after his return to the playoffs. I didn't want to believe it. Still don't...

Please correct me if I'm wrong but Lappy was signed as an over 35 player... as such he has to be placed on LTIR else the Flyers are accountable for his entire Cap hit for the net two years.

He will have to become this years Rathje to a lessor extent with a $1.167M hit that will 'penalize' the team's Cap banking ability... and likewise next season. Come Trade Deadline this will be a factor. That 35 year old player rule is a killer at times like these.

This is of course only if he is no longer able to play.

It appears that like Primeau before him, he has paid the price for the game, his teammates and the fans... I suppose this will never end, and the ones with the biggest hearts will never place their safety ahead of the team's short-term good. I wish they would be forced to do so.

Dont pat yourself too hard Irish, a lot of people thought this could happen, .
It definitely makes the Shelley signing a little easier to swallow.

It really sucks we couldn't win a cup for him this year, I hope he gets healthy.

Yeah our only relief here is LTIR. If he retires we are still hit the cap hit

Not exactly patting myself on the back. Just calling them like I see them.

There was one game last year where I snuck into the Pitts GDT and told them Coburn would be the best player for them. Shortly after, Coburn scored that own goal against us and they asked me to make Stanley Cup and Superbowl picks. LOL.

The worst part is that Holmgren definitely knew this all offseason, which means it definitely would have been possible to keep Gagne.

1.17+ 1.1(Shelley)+ 1.7(Walker) =~ 4 million + we have 800k in space,

That is ashame but not unexpected. A few people, including myself, saw this coming. Hopefully, they can work it out so he goes on LTIR and doesn't officially retire.

That $1.4MM hit would be a killer.

hartnell - briere - leino
jvr - giroux - Guerin
zherdev - richards - carter
shelly - betts - carcillo
powe

Makes Guerin a lock for the team I guess as well.

I would much rather have Nodl, Kalinski, Holmstrom make it over him though

I haven't read the entire thread so pardon me if this has been said, but I'm convinced that if this lasts any kind of time he'll retire. It sounded like he was thinking of it after his big blocked shot anyway.

BTW I don't think he'll officially retire if we can keep him on LITR.

So Lappy is gone for a while, Gagne is completely gone, Betts might be out to start the season, and Parent is gone completely.

Our PK is going to take a hurting in terms of personnel until Betts come back.

That's what i was thinking. That could be a killer.
I wonder if they go with Powe over Carcillo/Guerin because of his PK now.

PK Forwards
Richards - Giroux
Betts - Carter

OR

Richards -Giroux
Betts - Powe

F Me.

I'm sure Lappy would go on LTIR for the club and "retire" at the end of his contract. (2 years left?) Also, I think that they should wipe out cap hits on players the are forced to retire due to injury. That is just bunk.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a mix of all of those players on the PK, seeing how we take penalties left and right.. Holmstrom > Ol' Billy G.

I love that warrior mentality, although it definitely wasn't smart.

Now, not to be mean, but I'm disappointed he didn't come forward to Holmgren with the truth. We all know this likely means he wont play again, and although Holmgren would have just pissed it away anyway, that cap hit would have meant a bit more room this summer.

there's no way Guerin plays with Carter and Richards, he cant keep up

and carcillo was on this team way before guerin
