I admit I was down on Nodl being on this team, but he has shown me something. He still does not have the offense to be in the top 9. I am fine with him on the 4th line.
I just posted these pics from last night's game (in the game thread). Only Boosh had a better seat for the game. Also posted a few little stories in the game thread. Check em out. Bob looked great (especially in the shoot-out on Havlat) and Giroux was makin' magic again. That kid is dy-no-mite.
I love how you say things so definitively sometimes. I hardly think that Nodl is above Carcillo, Powe or (unfortunately) Guerin. I also don't think that Coburn has supplanted Carle (nor is above Meszaros) on the "depth chart".
It just so happens that those are your two man crushes, so of course they are very high on the "definitive depth chart".
As I said before, I think it was more than Laviolette already knew what he was going to do with Maroon and Legein coming into the preseason.
He gave guys competing for a job the opportunities, and then he got a look at the guys who are newer to the organization.
It says right now that Lavi doesn't see them being able to compete for a job. We'll see how the season progresses in the AHL, and whether or not Legein can improve and Maroon can rebound.
I don't think one should read too much into a thing like this, however, isn't Laliberté still in the main camp? I could be wrong though, I haven't followed this too closely, but if he is that would go against your argument somewhat. I don't think anyone believes he'll crack the lineup, and it shouldn't be a surprise for the organization what he brings.

I do think though that Laliberte is among players that have a shot to be called up throughout the year.
I could be wrong of course. It's just speculation.
That's all out the window now though. It seems like the guys left are the ones competing for call-up duty or spots on the roster for this upcoming season.
What's up with Maroon? I read last season that the Flyers felt like he took a step backwards, noticed he didn't get any preseason games this year either.

Hey, man, have you taken an Intro to Lit & Comp class?

It has nothing to do with the coach in the case of Maroon. The orginization has soured on Maroon becuase of his play and other reasons. It is a fact. They clearly sent him a message. When i mentioned a few month ago that Maroon may not even be invited to the main camp you laughed and said no chance. When i said he will be traded by xman you laughed. Guess i was talking out my ass. Well if he doesnt pick it up he will be moved.

Here's a thread dedicated specifically to that topic:
Laviolette was not the coach last year in pre-season to see Maroon first-hand. So it doesn't have anything to do with the fact there are new guys in the organization. Actually, they would be more likely to wait in line behind Maroon and Legein, unless we're talking about high draft picks.

Kind of agree here. I think it's more likely that the organization knows what it has in Maroon and Legien and just wanted to get a longer look at the new guys.
As I said in my previous post in this thread I haven't really been paying attention to this preseason, so I have a question: how has Wellwood looked so far? Do you think he has an outside chance of earning a roster spot with Lappy and Betts out injured? I was toying a bit with an idea of a Wellwood-Carter-Zherdev line, if he could make it. He has the speed to keep up, and is pretty reliable defensively I think, the question is if he can handle the physical play or if he'll simply be pushed around too much.
If not, I wouldn't be opposed to see Kalinski take the final spot and push up Powe or Carcillo to Carter's line. It wouldn't require too much puck handling to be the third part of that line anyway...
Edit: I won't include Guerin until he's actually signed.
