The bottom pair debate

Quite simple. On opening night, what will our bottom pair be?

I am of the opinion that it will be sulzer and parent. two defensively responible guys over franson, who has stunk this preseason. I think it allows us to keep weber off the pk, and to some extent suter too as klein and boullion can log pk minutes.

I think on the PP, you still see weber and suter, but on different units with sullivan and kostitsyn on the points with them.

Franson is this year's Hamhuis.

The other night he really stuck out and made subtle mistakes that ended up with the opposing team's goal light flashing.

I voted for Sulzer & Parent (although I'm not terribly impressed with Sulzer). Franson will probably end up on the roster (as the coaching staff love his big body).

He may not be if Poile is able to work a deal

i don't believe or think for a second that we're trying to trade Franson. He is what he is...take the good with the bad.

I also don't think Sulzer is ahead of Johnson by any measure, at this point.

I voted Parent\Franson, though I think Parent could end up supplanting even Klein, before too long. Dude has looked terrific so far.

Suter - Weber
Parent - Klein
Bouillon - Franson
Johnson

I don't think Sulzer will make the team honestly...

The off-season chatter around here had me thinking he had severe enough back issues that he was going to be a true project. The idea was, why would Philly let him go for a song otherwise? I wonder how his back feels? Must be good.

No doubt. Franson-Parent. Poile said he brought in Parent to compliment Franson. I am one of the few here that really think Cody has loads of potential, and supports him. I think this will be a huge year for him and Parent both.

I hope some of our young talent step up, and relegate Bouillon to third pairing.

Maybe we should thank the guy who got Sullivan back to form. Is his name Goode or something like that?

I think Weber and Suter may end up being split...

Weber-Parent
Suter-Klein
Franson-Bouillon
Johnson

Not sure who to pair Weber with though. Sulzer doesn't make the team. Ellis may even get a few games before going back to juniors.

PP pairings are a mystery so far, but I really doubt SK is part of them. But if I had to guess..
PP1 - Weber-Suter
PP2 - Franson-Klein/Bouillon

I'm not sure Franson has "earned" it yet, either, but since the other guys haven't really jumped out and excited us, he's it. 7th guy - wanna' say Sulzer, cause I think he could be a decent 3rd pair guy, and Johnson has a 2-way so he can go down.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Parent on that 2nd pair with Klein before it's over.

Johnson cannot go down without clearing waivers. Personally, I don't think he would...

I think this is the defense except I think Sulzer makes the team not Johnson.

i liked the Franson/Parent pairing tonight, and not to mention that Franson had 5 blocked shots, a couple hits and a takeaway or two. He's starting to keep it tight in his own end finally. I think our bottom pairing should be Bouillon/Klein, IMO.

SK played on the PP tonight and looked pretty good not to mention his nice little redirect form Weber, nothing special but he has the touch. No way we split Suts and Weber up, their chemistry is way too good to be reckoned with. But with Trotz its always a mystery.

Im a fan of the Franson/Parent pairing we had tonight along with the Klein/Bouillon pairing, i think Klein needs a seasoned vet like Cube to make up for his untimely pinching on offense and what not.

Is it just me or does Parent look really good out there?

i cant recall haha (maybe someone could refresh my memory), but do remember seeing him out there on the PP. he seems to have good vision on the ice and a pretty high hockey IQ.

Oohh, lol, I was talking about SK being on the point on the PP (this thread is about D pairings ). I definitely think he'll see plenty of PP time as a forward, but not at D.

I said I thought he would be on a point because 1? He has done it before and 2) we have run four forwards out there in the past
