How does Fedotenko know what hes saying and not Tortorella?
And what did he do to his voice? lol. Can't have a dman on the team who can't communicate with his partner.
Only way I can think of is writing lol. Maybe Valetenko was writing in Russian and Fedotenko translated? I doubt it, it seems stupid and I'm not even sure that Valentenko doesn't know how to speak or write in English.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks Christensen could be out as early as opening night. There's a reason he hasn't played much, and I'd venture to say it's because Torts is sold on him for now and his job as #1C was earned last season down the stretch. Stepan's getting all this hype because he's getting all the playing time with Gabby and Frolov.
Stepan IMO is already a better player overall compared to Christensen.
I like Christensen, but Stepan plays an overall two way game, and is a much better passer/playmaker.
Its a tough call. But I personally think its a mistake not to see what Stepan can do with Gaborik in real games in October.
Christensen still keeps a roster spot, eitherway, with Drury still out.
This team would benefit from a player like Stepan.
And it would have to be understood that like with any young pkayer, he will have his off days, too.
This is all based on what, 3 pre-season games? Christensen is without a doubt in my mind the better passer/playmaker right now, and I don't know why people discount Christensen's defensive play, he's a decent two-way forward.
I won't mind it if Stepan gets a roster spot, but IMO this is just very similar to when Grachev stayed with the team until basically the end of camp last season. If I remember right, he was getting loads of ice time and a long look, but I don't think the coaching staff ever intended on having him on the final roster.
You have to remember too, that the staff is I'm sure thinking ahead to who their first call-up may be at certain positions should someone get hurt. We've got better depth and versatility than we've had in a long time at most positions, where I don't think it's clear at all who our first call-up would be should someone be out for an extended amount of time. There's a lot we could do with our lineup given Dubinsky, Anisimov, Christensen, Boyle, Drury, Avery, Prust, Prospal could essentially all play center and for the most part can all play wing too should a forward need to come up. And when you've got MZA, Byers, Weise, Grachev, Newbury, Williams, Stepan, etc. in the wings you've got plenty of options to choose from.
Kocur, Domi, Probert, Orr, and Boogaard have all lost their share of bouts. Byers is a tough kid. Fights sometimes don't go your way.
Yes, it's true that even the best fighters lose a fight here and there... But this fight was typical of a Dane Byers fight. He's always willing to mix it up, but he slips & falls more often than not, just as he did here.
People criticized Hollweg & Voros, but I always gave them credit for hanging on & extending their fights as long as possible. If you're gonna fight & lose, at least make the other guy earn it. Most of Byers' fights, however, last no more than 10 seconds before he loses his balance & falls down.
Byers might yet find his niche in the NHL as an agitating 3rd liner somewhere, but his contribution won't be as a fighter.
With Stepan all but making the team as the 4th Line Center, maybe we could trade Brian Boyle for a 3rd rounder
Boyle has looked great IMO in the preseason. If he can continue his play through the season the Rangers will have a very good 4th line center on their hands with a rare combination of that dominating size and strength.
