Yeah, I'm probably in the minority on this topic. But I hear where you're coming from. Makes sense, I just don't think Trotz trusts him that much yet, especially with all the talent we have on the backend.

no, either way i think hamhuis is better than klein. Not saying Klein cost us anything but he still isnt great at what he should be, a defensive defensemen......

A number three defender doesn't need to be great. They need to be a number three defender. I gave my fair share of crap to Klein, but I also thought he looked decent with Cube last season. Anyway this thread is a debate on the bottom pairing. Not the second.

Both of them were very gaffe prone last year, including the playoffs. Sure, Hamhuis is better.

I think Klein belongs on the 3rd pair.

Fair enough, but we have to run with Klein on the second pair until Parent, Franson, Sulzer, or Johnson prove they can play second line minutes without being a bigger liability than KK or Cube. Of course the trouble with that is we'd probably have to see two of those four step it up big. I just don't think Trotz would take Klein off of the second pairing before Cube. This is all barring injury.

A number three still needs to be servicable not a liability as in not to pinch when his partner is further in the zone than him, when to make the first pass, etc. I think Parent proved he can be a number three/four defender when he played in stanley cup playoff games and did a good job. And we are talking about the third pairing, IMO it should be Klein/Cube i stated that in an above post. Agreed Klein will be giving the chance to be a second paring by Trotz before any other, but the real question is: how long does he stay there until he gets beaten out?

Judging by the blinders last season with Hamhuis and Klein paired together too long, I'd say at least half a season. Hopefully he makes an improvement this year.

you realize parent played one shift in game one of the finals and then was benched the rest of the series in favor of oscar bartulis.
