I'll be interested to see how they do when paired together. Might allow Staal to open up his offensive game a bit more.

Then you don't understand what chemistry is or the importance of it.

I hate having to ask this question, but I have an atrocious memory for what side D men prefer.

With today's pair of Gilroy - Valentenko, I am curious. Does Gilroy prefer left and Valentenko prefer right? Under the assumption that McDonagh makes the team (and plays left), do you think that will help Valentenkos case to make the team (assuming he and Gilroy are relatively close in overall performance).

I seem to recall Gilroy playing right mostly, so this is why I ask.

Gilroy shoots right, but can play the opposite side, just isnt very good at it.

Valentenko shoots left, so Gilroy will be on his usual side.

My thinking is they are trying to see how Sauer does on a line with our best D-man. If he pulls it off tonight he makes the team and those two will continue to be paired. As far as Gilroy and Vtank I'm surprised they are being paired b/c both can play themselves out of position. Girardi and McD might be the other pair so much like how I'm argueing that Sauer is being given a tryout with Staal the next game would be a tryout for McD with Girardi. I wouldn't argue with Girardi Mcd. Staal Sauer. MDZ Roszi. But then it's a guess if vtank or gil is the 7th or a vet with both sent down. Perhaps they want Gil and Vtank to work together in AHL so they are getting a chance to develop chemistry here?

.

Frolov-Christensen-Gaborik
Kennedy-Anisimov-Callahan
Avery-Stepan-Fedotenko
Boogaard-White-Prust

Dubinsky-Prospal-Boyle

Tough decisions to make for the opening night roster.

I'm going to make the assumption based on the names above that unless Stepan does some special things in the next three games (or how ever many he plays) that he's getting sent down.

Is Kennedy in a rotation with Boogaard?

I also believe that Boyle is AHL/Waiver fodder.

I also have a feeling that Fedotenko makes the team.

Dubinsky - EC - Gabby
Frolov - Arty - Fedotenko
Avery - Prospal - Cally
Boogaard - Kennedy - Prust

Personally, I'd like to see Kennedy center Avery and Callahan. Not a big line in terms of size, but all three skate very well, they all love to initiate contact, they have a great desire to go to the net and they are all defensively responsible players. Could be a nice trio.

I can see it being McDonagh and one of Valentenko and Sauer. So maybe this is a way for Torts to feel it out.

Personally, I think Valentenko should get some time in the AHL and doesnt have to go through waivers like Sauer, but at the same time I really love his nasty streak and would love to see him opening night. I think he's been much more noticeable than Sauer, McDonagh and even Gilroy thus far.

To me it is clear that this game is a battle for that last 7th defenseman spot between sauer and valentenko. I like both to be honest. I think they're both pretty physical. Let the best man win.

I also see McDonagh as being a lock for this team.

Yea, Prospal circa 2004 sure... Not 2010 Prospal. TFOld to play 1C or any C as a matter of fact.

Prospal to begin with was a streaky player. Factor in his age and recent injuries and he becomes someone you wouldn't want to rely on being your 1st line center.

I wouldn't consider it a battle for 7th d-man because if valentenko doesn't make the team he's getting sent down, as he should, to get work in. He won't be sitting up here being a healthy scratch waiting to play because that doesn't help his development. I see Sauer being the prototypical 7th d-man. He's solid enough, and I don't think the Rangers want to send him down because he'd have to go through waivers. It's either Valentenko makes the team or gets sent down to me.

I also don't think that McD not being in the lineup means he's a lock to make the team, I actually am not really sure how to interpret it right now but my gut is telling me that it's not a good thing he's scratched tonight.

Looking forward to the game tonight. LGR!!!!

With dubinsky not playing much in preseason, is he in the doghouse already or is he hurt and the rangers don't want to announce it yet??

I don't think any of us know what the hecks going to happen but this is how I see it in the end

LW- Frolov, Dubinsky, Avery, Boogaard. They all deserve those roles 1-4
RW-Gaborik, Callahan, Prospal, Prust. Once again it fits on where I think they shoudl be
C-Christiensen, Anisimov,Drury, Boyle. ok #1 C stinks but what can ya do
Spares. Kennedy, want him to get in the lineup either 4th line C or LW.
Either White or Fedortenko. If Fedotenko will take a cheap deal then he gets the nod

I like the idea of Stepan, Grachev, Zuccarello being on the team but I think it's half a year to the beginning of next away

If this team can hang in their and then they can deal for Brad Richards at the deadline to be the #1 c for a package of say Grachev, Christiensen,Gilroy then you do it. For a rental I think thats plenty. If they didnt resign him and lost Grachev id be very mad

of note this is another reason I think White and Eminger should be sent down. The more cap space they have at the deadline is critical for this team to acquire a top C via trade

Pretty close to our real line up. Only Dubinsky, Girardi and Boyle are missing. When the team hits a minor injury spree in mid-season, it will about the same strength as this lineup.

Would be nice to put up a good performance tonight.

Big game for Sauer tonight for sure. Looking forward to seeing how he plays with Staal. I dont think he gets through waivers so the rangers got to make up there mind about him.

White should be going to hartford soon. He hasn't done anything impressive. Boyle and Kennedy have outplayed him imo. I dont see a reason to keep a 4th line center who has an over 2 million dollar cap hit.
