tikhonov for sauer doesnt excite me

another 3rd line type

not much offense

not much of anything really

pass on that deal

i would keep mike and let him play. he looks like he can play

hes really big 6'3 and he seems calm with the puck

im afraid with vtank, mcd and sauer, we might actually like one of those guys better than gilroy and girardi by mid season.

Well I think the idea is packaging some of our extra forwards for an upgrade. Not an easy thing to do... but worth discussing.

Also if we decide not to keep Sauer then we don't want to lose him for nothing on waivers because he will get claimed.

I think if the organization feels Prospal is a 1 year solution on the 2nd line LW, and then they can turn the spot over to one of MZA, Kreider, or Grachev, then perhaps that's a move they can look at.

However, as much as I hate to admit it, Rozy eats a lot of minutes for this defense. I don't think we have anyone ready to step in and fill the hole he would leave.

Absolutely, have at it.

With Stepan, Christ, Anisimov, Boyle etc. I don't see any space for another center. Without the addition of Weiss, say, we already have a total logjam.

I think we should see where these young players (like Sauer) plateau before we write them off.

Not much else to say except I disagree. I have never seen first line talent from him on a consistent basis and IMO he does not present a significant enough upgrade to our top-6 that would be worth giving up key pieces for. Or put another way, he definitely doesn't put us over the top in terms or transforming from a bubble team to a legit contender.

as much as i dislike his game, rozy is here atleast until spring.

if one of the young guys steps up, or more than one, and rozy continues to play like stevie wonder and hear boos at home, hes history at the deadline.

True. That would definitely be a good reason to move Sauer.

However, to get "value" in return he's going to need to be packaged. This means someone else will go, too.

60 + points the last 2 seasons isn't more qualified as a top center than EC?

There's a difference between "More qualified" and "qualified." His point isn't that Weiss wouldn't be an upgrade, but that Weiss isn't a significant enough upgrade, both short and long term, to warrant giving up picks and prospects for.

Meanwhile, whispers---unconfirmed at this point---continue that the Rangers are looking for a center and experienced defenseman, and that Columbus, Florida and Phoenix are talking....

All speculation on the trade front, but Columbus scouts have been watching Rangers, two people have mentioned Sauer to Phoenix for Tikhonov and C Stephen Weiss may be available in Florida. As was the case last year, teams are apparently asking about Dubinsky. Rangers almost always decline to comment on trade rumors.
http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey...of-2-1.2324891

Columbus doesn't have anything besides players making too much money for too much term and young players they aren't trading. You want Clark or Boll?

Weiss is a good player. Backloaded contract. Is he available?Haven't read anything from the Panther beat writers.

Sather and Maloney talk all the time.

Dubinsky & Christensen for Weiss?

I mean lets face it Fedotenko and Avery have made it really hard to cut them or put them any lower than 3rd line. So where does dubinsky go?

Frolov - Weiss - Gaborik
Prospal - Anisimov - Fedotenko/Callahan
Avery - Drury - Callahan/Fedotenko
Boogaard/Kennedy - Boyle - Prust

Staal - Rozsival
Del Zotto - Girardi
McD - Gilroy
Eminger

Sauer to Phoenix for a pick and prospect.
Valentenko to Hartford as first call up

White is waived
Stepan is the wild card if Drury goes on IR then insert Stepan as 3rd line center and probably form the line they used tonight Avery - Stepan - Fedotenko. When Drury comes back if Stepan is doing great 4-5 games in then Probably Drury on 4th line with maybe some more offense like
Kennedy - Drury - Prust. and Boogaard and Boyle are extra spare forwards.

Either way hasn't Dagoon said that Dubinsky was trying to run the locker room, and that some players thought he was a lil too cocky? Sometimes that may not fly in the locker room of a lot of what seems to be quiet demeanors like Drury, Cally, Gaborik, Staal...none seem to carry that yelling passion like Dubi. However that could be waaaaaaay off.

But I think Dubinsky is enticing enough for florida, and they get a skilled guy in christensen who goes to a market that will be zero stress and pressure, and Dubi can go to Florida and automatically become one of the best players and leaders. Meanwhile Weiss gets 60+ points with a half the time healthy Booth, and a hot or cold Horton, I think he's a lock for 70 or 80 with Gabbo and Frolov.

and lastly weren't we heavily rumored last deadline about a deal with florida? I know after hearing how long it took sather to get Zherdev, and it was months into the making for the montreal/gomez deal, that maybe sather has been waiting to see where the kids are at until now to pull the trigger...?

Honestly, I would have no problem with that move, and your assessment is fair. I wouldn't go as far to agree that Weiss would be a lock for 70 or 80, but he is an upgrade over Christ, and good enough to ride until Arty/Stepan is ready.

Exactly. For better or worse, the Rangers are very good at concealing what they are doing. Think about recent trades. Which ones were well documented or speculated? Almost none.

If we are going to make a move for Weiss, I'd like something like this to go through.

To NYR:
Weiss

To FLA:
Dubinsky
Gilroy

I don't think it's enough though. However, Weiss is definitely available at this point.

Weiss would be great. Team needs a guy like him for that 1st line

Trading Dubinsky pains me though. who slides into 2nd line LW? Prospal is getting up there. I think it helps C but hurts LW

if they can get Weiss and keep Dubi then its a different story

Where would Tikkonov fit? minors to play with Grachev?

Weiss is one of those guys who's kind of puzzling. Tons of skill, but never seemed to put it all together until recently. I could see the team gambling on him being a late bloomer who is now ready to take the next step. Question is, what is Florida's asking price?

I'd guess so. If I were Sather, I'd try to pull Boedker out of the desert Or even MacLean. He's a dynamic player who has the right tools.

Sauer is looking like a cheaper version of Girardi right now. He might be valuable to us soon.

This year Prospal, next year a kid moves into that spot or we find someone in FA.
