I know this is only pre-season, but I have a very bad feeling about this season.

we just brought in Paul Mara

I hate to throw people under the bus but Syvret played terrible last night! He needs to be sent down and i can't stand his skating style. Macenauer should be sent down as well, Green and sexton played the best out of the guys trying to earn a spot. As for Curtis he better get his rebound control down, or it's going to earn him a promising position on the bench. We need a back up to relieve Hiller for when he gets fatigued....poor performance, hopefully we can turn things around this weekend.

I think Syvret's 2-way contract will hurt his chances either way.

Lydman - Visnovsky
Sutton - Sbisa
Mara - Brookbank
Mikkelson/Festerling

Is what I'm expecting. Hopefully Lydman is back soon.

Pretty much agree on the pairings. Don't think its nearly as bad as some are making. Could have Whitney still

We didn't??? Last night really looked like he was still on the team....and in a top 4 D position at that.

I'd rather have Whitney than all but 1 or 2 of our current defensemen. At least he can make a breakout pass, eat minutes and play in a #3 role.

He was fine in a #3 role in Pittsburgh behind Gonchar and Orpik, and was fine in a #3 role here in 2008-09. He may be soft and inconsistent but you can't deny that there is nothing wrong with him when he's not asked to play in a top pairing role.

He's fine behind better players that's for sure. Sad to say we lost ours and he wasn't able to step up. Failed miserably at that

I've hated Whitney since well before it was cool (I didn't even like him during his 59 point season), and I would still be OK with calling him a #3. I'd prefer him as a 4, but he's an alright #3.

And yeah, he would still probably be our 2nd best defenseman. How sad is that.

He was anything but "fine" in Pittsburgh, regardless of pairing. His whispy, honey-coated cotton-candy-like demeanor on the ice often lead to problems against better competition. I almost think Whitney would be better off if he were asked to be a PP specialist, and otherwise play 10 hard minutes a night if he can muster it without damaging his pedicure. He's a very good skater and passer and has a reasonably good shot but otherwise is useless as a D seems like. Certainly didn't do anything to dispel that in Anaheim.

Tangradi and Kunitz doing well btw. I expect both to be on the Top 6 at the end of camp. All hail Ray Shero.
