Mess should be on ice teaching his patented shot.

Mess doesn't cry when he's in the zone, only when he reminisces about how awesome him and his boys were.

Interesting.

A good thing IMO.

I read something some where about Torts not wanting players having lots of exposure to high profile execs like Messier.

Can't remember where I read that.

Why would he not want one of the greatest players in NHL history to help his team?

Sets the bar too high. How are you supposed to strive for greatness when you'll never be as great as he.

Read the same thing a few months but can't remember where either.

The story was Torts didn't like Messier being around the team. He didn't want him in the locker room.

I love it. Love the reaction from the players too!

Prospal's was an interesting mental vision for me.

Did you know that John Tortorella made it clear he didn’t want Mark Messier anywhere near the dressing room of the New York Rangers in the second half of the NHL season? Doesn’t sound like Messier is about to replace the should-be-replaced Glen Sather any day now

Basically someone said "get Messier to teach Stepan to win some damn faceoffs... actually, might as well let him teach all the centers a thing or two".

Good. He knew a thing or two about playing center, I am sure he has some advice.

In regards to not wanting him around the lockerroom, I would guess that Torts recognizes the importance of having a leader in the locker room, but it should be someone on the team stepping up and leading the room. It is far better for the young Rangers to develop their leadership abilities, then to have a temporary fix in Messier coming in and giving pep talks.

For the record, in the NCAA Stepan was actually a pretty good face off man, so hopefully its just a small tip the will help him, or he's just not strong enough to get it done yet.

Let's send Leetch to Hartford so he can teach Wade how to play defense.

I'm glad they found a way to clone Stepan. However, that means we'll have to cut yet another center. This is getting tricky.

Seriously though, a little Messier guidance couldn't hurt.

Well, it IS the Toronto Sun folks. Not exactly fullproof source material.

On the other hand, remembering how tense things were in the 2nd half, I don't think it was a big deal that Tortorella didn't want any kind of "distractions" from the outside...even if they were part of management.

I know right. I always thought Gretzky would be the GM and Mess a coach but it went the other way around.
