Yeah, and who wanted Eric Belanger for 750K? And Malhotra the year before that? Ah well.

Briere blows ass defensively, much worse than Giroux, my main hope is that he can score enough at C to slightly mitigate that, he did lead the league in ES points a few years back.

The other issue is that for a variety of reasons, Giroux projects long-term to be a wing. So I mean, the longer we keep ****ing around with him at C, the longer we delay that permanent move so that he can get settled.

I disagree with Garbage Goal though, that Hartnell-Briere-Leino line had some kind of weird chemistry that seemed to work whereas Giroux's success in the POs was just the kid stepping up big-time rather than any big-time chemistry with other players. So I would rather put Briere at C for now at least.

Yeah, Giroux is a lot better than Brière defensively, but you have to at least start the season with the Brière line intact. It should show pretty much immediately if they still have that chemistry, otherwise that's probably a pretty scary line to watch as a Flyer fan.

I'm not advocating Giroux at C, I'm just saying that he's our best option for the third line center defensively-speaking.

Personally, I'd like to keep Giroux at wing with either Richards or Zherdev and keep the Briere line together. I doubt that the Briere line is going to be able to replicate that playoff success though so I'm half-expecting that line to be broken up at some point.

I was being facetious. I've been in favor of a real third line forever.

I'd like to have a bit of help from you guys...in my pool, almost all the Flyers players are available and there's a lot of interesting names. It's an auction draft and I don't have the money for either Carter or Richards or Pronger.

But I would you rank these forwards and defencemen in term of offensive production. Am I wrong with my predictions? :

Briere (30-30?)
Giroux (25-40?)
Hartnell (20-25?)
Zherdev (20-40?)

Carle (35 pts?)
Meszaros (25-30 pts?) (PP time?)
Coburn (25-30 points) (PP time?)

Is it a keeper or dynasty league. Anyways, in terms of offensive production:

Zherdev>Giroux>Briere>Hartnell
Carle>Coburn>Meszaros

The forward group you posted is really tough to choose so I could see varying lists there. Pretty close all around as all four could realistically be 60 point guys.

None of those d-men are big point producers. Carle will probably get the most PP time and has the best offensive instincts. Coburn gets points because of secondary PP time and because he's a great skater with a decent shot. Meszaros is more of an unknown and hasn't posted decent stats since 07-08 and he's never done better then 10 goals or 39 points.

Philadelphia Flyers
The good: Their players are far less likely to suffer catastrophic injuries at the hands of Chris Pronger than those from other teams, unless they do something stupid like attend practice.

The bad: Entire roster lives in fear that they're half a bad game away from losing their jobs to Michael Vick.

What to watch: Might eventually decide to try having one of those things… what do you call them… with the big pads and funny mask… you know what, forget it, it's probably not important.

Luca Sbisa just got his ass kicked by Brayden Schenn. Returning the favor from when they fought in juniors I guess.

Even though Sbisa got a few good, solid knocks in, he got slaughtered.

speaking of the Kings, I am happy for Kevin Westgarth who won a spot on the Kings. Guy worked his tail off in Manchester. he is a upgrade over Ivanans.
heard he busted David Koci's jaw last week.

on the other side of it, Oscar Moller is headed to bustland.

I'm not sure Sbisa will ever be a regular NHLer. He gets walloped at least twice every game; maybe he'll get better with age, but his ice awareness is pretty awful at NHL speed.

I remember Paul Holmgren after Sbisa's rookie season said he thought Sbisa was going to grow at least two inches over the summer. Pretty sure that doesn't happen when you're 19. It was just insane listening to Holmgren talk about Sbisa like he was some sort of atypical human specimen. Or like a father who talks up his son to the high school football coach. "Listen coach, my kid can throw. I play catch with him every day in the backyard."

Some of my favorite highlights:

Quote:
Tampa Bay Lightning
The good: Are just one good break away from winning the division, if a four-team midair plane crash could really be described as a good break.

Washington Capitals
The good: Haven't choked away a soul-crushing loss in over three months.

New York Islanders
What to watch: Owner Charles Wang recently spent $250,000 to upgrade the Coliseum's 38-year-old locker room, which for the first time this season will feature electricity, running water and walls.

Carolina Hurricanes
The good: The retirement of Rod Brind'Amour has made entire roster, on average, about 300% more attractive.

New Jersey Devils
The bad: Are pretty weak at backup goaltender, which could come up three or even four times this season.

Buffalo Sabres
The bad: Word has got out around the league that Ryan Miller is surprisingly weak on 3-on-0s.

Atlanta Thrashers
The good: Will no longer fail to meet fan expectations, as that would require both expectations and fans.

Florida Panthers
The bad: Warm local weather makes good ice quality difficult to maintain in May and June, theoretically.
Ok I expected to have like 3 highlights, but that article was just too good.

sorry for grunching.

I just joined a money league last minute and have 48 hours to prep for the draft.

What are some resources that can catch me up real quick, ie: latest magezines or websites.

I am 100 percent convinced if we had the cap space holmgren would have claimed Redden and some on this board would have loved it.
That is no secret about Bouwmeester. Its one of the reasons why I am glad we stayed away from him when he went to UFA land.
