Those were the lines that skated this morning. I think HIO just printed the 2nd/3rd line reversed. Because the 3rd looks like the 2nd....visa-versa

I can't wait for a lineup with both G-love and Pleky in it.

Sweet, I guess the interview with jacques Martin about Gionta becoming captain threw me off, I thought he said they were going on the road and I thought he meant the last two preseason games and the start of the season.

Sounds like Gionta will get a little taste of the Montreal style ovation.

I'm gonna catch this game without a doubt.

FYI, I love White and want him on the team, but he'd have to really impress to beat someone out and the 13th forward spot is already given to Darche, who many of you may hate, but he's just happy to be with the team. He was excited to finally look for a home, being his first 1 way contract. He's not gonna complain like Laraque did. He seems like a really great team player.

This is probably White's last game, unless there's an injury.
To be perfectly honest, I'd be shocked if Pyatt didn't start. He's one of Martin's favorite players, and probably has the best work ethic amongst all the young forwards on the team. What wouldn't shock me is Eller starting the year on the 2nd line and Pouliot getting benched. But if Pouliot starts, the lineup will almost surely look like this:

Cammy-Plex-AKost
Pouliot-Gomez-Gionta
Lapierre-Boyd-Eller
Moen-Halpern-Pyatt
White-Darche

That said, whenever we play a more goon-like team, I could see Halpern getting taken out for White. Martin might just take Halpern out of the lineup a lot, especially if his knee is acting up or something. Maybe there's a plan in place for Halpern and White to split time, regardless of injuries. In any event, there will obviously be injuries, and a guy like White will surely play a bunch of games this year. By this time next year, White and Maxwell will probably be on the team as the extra forward or a regular.

The line-up tonight is telling, since I would bet the last game is the full, opening-night lineup.

On defense... Weber, Henry, Picard, and O'Byrne are the bottom four... and I assume in a dog fight for two or three spots (depending on Hamrlik's injury).

Right now I'd guess we see O'Byrne, Picard and Weber up... Weber to go down after Hamrlik heals.

On forward... Assuming we keep 13 players, two guys from tonight's roster are going to hit the road (plus anyone scratched, not including the second line of Pleks, Kostitsyn and Cammy). So White, Darche, Maxwell and Pyatt, I would assume, are in a four way battle for two, maybe three roster spots.

I'd assume Maxwell gets cut, while White depends on whether or not we want to keep 14 forwards.

I think it was the combination of wanting to do it before a home game so the fans get to see him with the C first, and wanting to do it before the season started. Since this is the last home game before the season starts it's the only choice.

It may be necessary given the situation. If we keep O'Byrne or Weber in the line-up.... We have three right defenders (Subban and Gorges has essentially been converted).

Opening night line-up to me seems to be:

Spacek - Subban
Gill - Gorges
Picard - Weber/O'Byrne

Not to mention, I do hope Eller and Kosty get more time, I like what I have been seeing from Kosty and Eller had a really solid game two nights ago.
The Kosty Eller team-up intrigues me. Martin likes to create "duos" and maybe this one has some decent potential. If they do work out well together, and then sometime in the season the plex-cammy-Akost line isn't working, maybe they can put Akost with Eller. The addition of Eller has really given us that extra offensive option we sorely needed.

That's true, he's even said in interviews that the team is based off of duos.

Gionta - Gomez
Cammalleri - Plekanec
Eller - Kostitsyn

Then we could fill in the rest with some scoring wingers, pouliot on the first line, Pacioretty on the second and Boyd on the third. It would definitely give us some secondary scoring

That would be unreal ..

Gionta - Gomez - Pouliot
Pacioretty - Plekanec - Cammalleri
Kostitsyn - Eller - Boyd
Lapierre - Halpern - Moen/White/Pyatt

I think after last game, it should probably be Eller with the Pleks/Cammy duo

It's believed Halpern was brought in to take away pk time and defensive match ups for pleky, so he could focus more on offense.

Doesn't matter if we play a goon type team, Halpern will still be in unless he's hurt. Also, Halpy is a team guy, so if people are taking runs, he'll try and fight them. He beat up Eric Staal once. Other than that, I think he's lost every other fight.

Can't wait to see Eller and Kostisyn together, as the year goes on and if everything goes well it could be a good way to have 3 offences lines. I can't really think of anyone that would take Kostitsyns place on the 2nd line ( Boyd maybe? ) but could still be interesting if they work well together.

Yeah i feel this way too. I like the signing a lot. Just feel bad for White. Honestly i think this is the first year ever that i went into the season not disliking a single player on the team. The two guys who might be "lazy bums", AK and Pouliot, I still like a lot.

Yeah they played well, but imagine if Eller/Kostitsyn ended up working out? Eller's a hard worker whose main asset is setting up the puck. Kostitsyn's a fast skater who can really blast the puck, though known to float from time to time. If they ended up clicking then they'd make a killer duo. Three passer/scorer duos, finish off the trios with a hard worker, someone who's not scared to grind.

Yup. The thing with both of them is, they're our physical top 6. Both highly skilled, both normally leave you wanting more.
