Maybe even sent to an ahl team where the parent club may have some interest in acquiring him.. kind of like Avery with the rags.

Exactly. Lending him to an affiliate of a potential suitor would be a perfect way to bait him and draw more interest by them getting a feel for the player and addressing his issues prior to acquiring him. It's almost like a test drive prior to purchasing the vehicle.

You have to think that if they're planning to send him to the minors, before they do that they'll try him on re-entry waivers. No sense just sending him down and paying his whole salary because as soon as you do get a trade offer he needs to go on re-entry anyway.

In the old CBA yes.

In this CBA no. Waiver eligibility is no longer determined by two-way contracts.

It wasn't in the old CBA either.

You have GOT to get rid of that avatar before the season opener.

I don't know where you get that from.

Re-entry waivers – new to this CBA is the provision that certain players recalled to the NHL must clear waivers to join the team holding his NHL rights; any other team may claim said player for 50% of his cap hit and salary, with the team attempting to recall taking the other 50% of each. In general, players are not subject to re-entry [recall] waivers unless:

1. The player is on a -way contract and is subject to waivers when assigned to the minors; or
2. The player is on a 2-way contract whose minor league salary is in excess of

2007-08: $100,000
2008-09: $100,000
2009-10: $105,000
2010-11: $105,000
2011-12: $105,000

#2 above does not apply to a player who

1. If a goalie, the goalie has played in 180 or more professional games [NHL, AHL, or ECHL; regular season and playoffs] or, if a skater, 320 or more professional games; AND
2. Has not spent more than 80 games on an NHL roster in the prior 2 seasons or 40 or more games on an NHL roster in the immediately prior season.

An interessting fact has just been turned up on the Business Board. It seems a player agent has said that player who play in the minors on a one-way deal do not pay escrow. So if Souray is asiigned his demotion to the AHL would give him a pretty tidy raise.

I remember someone pointing that out last week with Redden as well.

McKenzie talked about it today, he was sure what the Oiler plans were but stated if he were to be brought back on re-entry that he suspects CBJ, NYI and STL would be interested. He did however say CBJ might rather have souray at full price and make a trade with bad contracts. Apparently STL had interest in the summer, but the second year scared them away.

He has to be assigned prior to placing him on re-entry. If Tamb doesn't find a trade partner by regular season then it's best to assign him and loan him as aforementioned.

Thought I read that somewhere... Regardless... That last part in that excerpt.. Souray only played 37 games last season. But, I'm not sure if LTIR counts as on the roster
