at 2.7 I think we'd be in a somewhat bidding war for him. I'd be pleasantly happy if Montreal was able to snag him off waivers for 2.7 thats a nice price for Souray even if he plays 50 games.
I loved Souray when he was here but I'd be serious concerned with his attitude given what happened in Edmonton and where and how he'd fit in with this team thats already stacked with leadership.
Souray and his cannon from tue point and physical play v. bad attitude and persistent injuries. I'd hve to say no but realize it's not because if lack of talent.
Potential upgrade over Hammer. But then who will take Hammer?
Apart from salary saving, how is Souray an upgrade over Hammer? Souray is horrible defensively, almost useless offensively, can't setup a PP, extremely injury prone, has become known for his attitude problems and was divisive in the locker room in his final seasons here, just to name a few issues. Basically he's the anti-Hammer.
The heavy shot he has on the PP is not enough to overcome all of the above.

If you think Hamrlik is better than Souray, I don't know what to tell you other than you don't have a clue of what you're talking about.
He has injury concerns, a bad attitude, and is average at best on defense. But offensively? You've got to be joking.
I think we could use him. At 2.7M$, that would be good enough for me. Not going to happen however.
Moving Spacek would be necessary however so it might be a bit of a risky move. The potential is quite there however, we know how well Markov can used Souray shot on a PP (yes i see Souray more of an object in the hands of Markov )
When healthy, Souray is one of the top offensive defenseman in the league. That's not debatable, its fact.
I highlighted the "laughable" part!! Souray was a good offensive defencemen for the Habs for 1 year....and he was -28 FFS!!! He's a brutal defencemen to say the least. Hamrlik is 10 times the defencemen Souray is. Hammer might not have the offence, but he provides rock solid defence. Besides....we have Markov and Subban for our offence on the blueline....Souray would just be a huge waste of money because he's overpaid and never healthy enough to play a full season.

At his current deal, hes a terrible contract. At half price, hes a bargain.
If he didn't mouth off and create a rift between himself and Oiler management, he'd still be a huge asset to Edmonton.
Wouldn't we pay 2.7 for the first year only and then pay the regular contract for the rest of the years?
Anyway.
My opinion, no, but a yes if it was the Souray of a few years ago. This new Souray is older, more fragile and not as strong either. Plus if we wanted Souray, we'd have to get rid of Roman, and I don't want that. Souray has a nice slapper, but sucks D... D as in defensively. Roman might not have a great slapper, but atleast he's a better D-man than SOuray.
