What's the point though? Backlund is on a one-year deal, almost 30, and we didn't even think he would be re-signed this year. Forget about next year. Plus I'm sure everyone would like to give Bobro some AHL seasoning first.

I understand that they don't want to lose Backlund to waivers, but this is really a do-or-die season for Backlund and no one wants to rush Bobro.

Well yea, maybe we would. Management on the other hand, I think, is leaning the other way. Hense why Bob is played almost every game, and tonight, instead of Backlund backing up, Bob is. Plus when thats all Lavy and Homer seem to be talking about and when asked about him, they rave about him.

Oh and Backlund is on a 2 year deal and will turn 30 next year. He just turned 29.

Wait I think I know what you mean. In response to why Bob has played almost every game. Yea but I think last game, against the Isles AHL team, they would have given Backs the job. Instead they made him sit on the bench. And now tonight, it seems that he is sitting on the bench again.

EDIT:

Well they are saying Backlund IS on the bench.

Apparently CSN's Lisa Hillary just said Backlund IS on the bench tonight. Too much lineup nonsense for the preseason.

Not to mention the old whipping boys like Carle (because, again, people can't accept him for what he is - an above average offensive dman with a few defensive shortcomings, but many less than they actually blame him for) will undoubtedly still get railed on for DARING to have the 2nd best +/- on the team and 30+ points, for shame Matty, for shame.

Shelley will get a ton of **** until people start to fall in love with his "antics" ala Carcillo last year.
so-burnt took a pretty good run for the title last year but after his playoffs and so far preseason, he seems to have turned around. at 4+ mil if meszaros plays down to his role as a fifth defenseman theyll be calling him randy jones at twice the price. walker though is the the kind of big slow d people seem to get a solid hate on for and his contracts pretty bad too. both are new to many people so id give it till december.

i still miss yelling "YOU SUCK BUNDY"

I was thinking about Backlund being old for just starting in the NHL, but Leighton is 29 too, and only played 77 games before 09-10. Of course 77 games for a goalie is a lot more than 77 for any skater. But, then again I just really want Backlund to get a shot.

He's on 2-year deal? Didn't know that. That's good, but it still would make more sense to at least give Backlund a look-see before rushing Bob.

It has nothing to do with being too old to start. Goalies tend to mature slower as players (compared to skaters) and tend to hit their peaks last longer. 30 is a perfectly fine age for a goalie. Brodeur is 38, Kipper is 33, Vokoun is 34, and Roloson is 40. That's three of the top six goalies on the league and they're all at least 33.

It's just that, by the age of 30, you either have it or you don't. So there's not much to be gained for Backlund's development by playing him in any league but the NHL. You could make the argument that he could use a bit more practice to shake off injury rust and get even further accustomed to north american ice, but that's about it.

Yea. Twitter people are killing me haha. So I guess Backlund isnt playing.

Gustafsson playing yet again. Anyone think they are realllyyyy taking a look at him just incase Pronger isnt ready to go. I know theres Bart, but so far, Gustafsson has been playing on the top 4 over Bart has in some of the games. Looks pretty close to what I think we will see opening night (as in 95% of the vets are playing)

D-men playing:

Timonen
Coburn
Carle
Meszaros
Gustafsson
O'Donnell

It is located on the Flyers' site, right-hand side where the opponent info has STATS. Click on STATS and you get a few options including EVENT SUMMARY or ROSTER REPORT. It gets updated when the teams submit official rosters to the off-ice officials, generally within 10 minutes of game-time.

I really like Gustafsson.

He reminds me of Kimmo a little.

He really has been calm and precise though. For a 21 year old, he has looked very good for a player not drafted.

He also has some leadership abilities. He was captain for the Northern Michigan Wildcats.
