I know the city of xinhua (or however the **** thats spelled, thats a ******** of consonants) is having serious ethnic clashes, because the government has been moving a lot of Han Chinese into the city, and the Uighur Turks are convinced the Chinese are trying to breed them into extinction or force them out, or something like that.

Being the beat writer for the Flyers is like drawing the shortest straw. None of the writers for the Inquirer/Daily News know hockey at all - they know the Flyers but have no idea about where any of these guys came from or anything at all about the western conference. Next season they'll give the job to Marcus Hayes.

Anyays Panaccio tweets in 3rd person. He might as well scream "I am a colossal dooshbag!!"

He spelled his native language wrong. That ought to be enough.

How dare he?

I've had enough of Zherdev. We should outsource his position to India.

I'm kind of hoping his first name is "Flyers' goal, scored by No. 93 ..."

That's a pretty accurate description of China.

If Zherdev wants his name to be spelled Nikoly, then fine. I don't see what the fuss is about.

I am truly embarrassed that he represents our hockey team. I hope someone goes Roenick on him.

The official NHL box score for tonight's game lists it as NIKOLAY.

Apologies if I get Zherdev confused with Katie Mikolay from Presque Isle Downs

I immediately stopped following @tpanotch when he tweeted that today. A moral victory for me.

I asked him why does it matter what language he used and he never responded. I'm not surprised he took it down.

I tried, and got at least 7 twats...though I confess some of those could have been intentional.

Maybe he should just put "Nikoly" on the back of his jersey, like Yao and Ichiro...Timmy's head might explode.

What's funny about Panotch tweet is that he still has mispelled Zherdev's name.
Zherdev changed the "i" to "y". So it is "Nikolay" instead of "Nikolai" and not "Nikoly"

Quote:
NOTES: Zherdev changed the spelling of his first name, asking the team to use a "y" at the end, rather than the "i" that was used for his first five seasons.

While Laviolette said there is a numbers problem right now in rotating people on the power play, he is also trying “to keep everyone honest.”

Laviolette specifically mentioned James van Riemsdyk, who was rewarded with 3 minutes PP time against the Avs because he is playing well at even strength. From a pure skill standpoint, Zherdev should have more PP time than JVR, but he’ll have to play better to take that time away from the sophomore forward.

“It makes people push a little harder to keep their spot,” Laviolette said. “Usually, it’s an indication for me. Somebody going five-on-five, looking at them and watching them play, you want to get them out on the power play. You look at a guy like JVR and how he’s playing right now, you want to get him out on the power play.

“If you get him out there, somebody has to come out. It’s a good thing, a good situation … Hopefully, you can get a push internally, to get that power play time. To be the unit that is called or the guy that is called. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”

What was Zherdev’s take on it? Three reporters waited over an hour to ask him and were told “no” when a Daily News reporter asked him, “Do you have a second?”
