PRESS RELEASE

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that forward Max Pacioretty has been assigned to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.

Pacioretty, 21, played two preseason games since the start of training camp registering two points (2 assists), a +2 plus/minus differential and eight shots on goal.

Thirty (30) players are still at training camp, including three (3) goaltenders, 10 defensemen and 17 forwards. The list of injured players at camp includes; Curtis Sanford (lower body), Andrei Markov (knee), Hunter Bishop (upper body), Ryan Russell (lower body) and Roman Hamrlik (knee).

I can only assume he is injured and unable to play in any remaining Canadiens preseason games, thus being sent down.

The opposite.

A player cannot be sent down while injured unless he is junior age.

He is being sent down now because he is NO LONGER injured and can play.

That's why Sanford/Russel/Bishop are still with the big club

The important part is in the quote.
Quote:
Max Pacioretty, 21
Hes young!!! The AHL will be way better for him then the NHL playing 8'ish minutes per game.

Because if a guy is on a two-way contract and gets hurt (in pre-season or otherwise), a penny-pinching team would always immediately send him down to save money. That would violate their financial obligations to an injured player as negotiated in the CBA.

Agree. Hope he plays top 6 minutes every game in Hamilton, can't hurt.

They probably agreed that it would be best for Max to begin the year in the AHL with top line minutes than on the 4th line in the NHL... or at least it'd be the most logical option to me.

No rush. One more AHL season will be good for him.

maxwell hasn't looked that out of place, actually. And they might be apprehensive about sending down any d with the injuries.

Based on this, I can see the following lines to start the season:

Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Cammalleri
Pyatt - Eller - Lapierre
Boyd - Halpern - Moen
Darche

Gill - Gorges
Picard - Subban
O'Byrne - Spacek
Henry

Price
Auld

Hamrlik, Markov (injured)

I'm estatic that he was sent down. I still have hope for him after reading his off season interview but he has not been able to produce at the pro level for a full season. I Hope he isn't recalled too early cuz of injuries. I want him to be a top 6 not a plug, if he stayed up now he was destined for mediocretty. Pun / rhymeintended.

let us all pray now that this is the year where he starts to dominate offensively in the AHL... building up that confidence and setting him up to take a permanent roster spot next season (on top of being an effective call-up this year).

He played well in the camp and pre-season, the injury hurt and the play of White and Maxwell was a factor. The kid is young and I think he can go down and dominate with Hamilton playing on a top line with Palushaj and whoever centres it be it Desharnais or Maxwell if sent down.

Montreal has a lot of good 21-24 year old players, some will have to be moved as there isn't enough room in Montreal and younger prospects or picks would be a good return.

That's 24 guys, including the two injured ones.

Eller, Subban, Picard and Henry are on two-way contracts. So that leaves 20 guys on one-way cotnracts.

Why does EVERY news report I read state there are 21 one-way contracts??

Is there a 21st one-way out there that we already cut??? I don't think so. Carle and Wyman had to go through waivers, but are 2-way. Right now, there are 30 guys in camp. Russell and Sanford have to go through waivers when they return from injury, but are on two-way contracts. Bishop is on an ELC as are White, Weber and Maxwell who would be cut in the scenario above. So we're back to 24 and I still don't see a 21st one-way contract.

Can anybody enlighten me?
