He's pretty indecisive it seems, although I didn't see the whole game. We have enough 4th liners, and he doesn't doing anything more that they can't. He doesn't create or produce enough to knock Bill Guerin out.

Solid is definitely the word I'd use for O'Donnell. He's a guy I didn't notice unless I forced myself to key on him.

Shelley is completely useless on this team. Darroll Powe is more useful in the everyday lineup the way he battles to steal the puck and push it up ice, Shelley couldn't keep up with the ballerinas the Sabres had out there.

JVR's goal was a beauty, love to see hands like that in tight.

Zherdev looked pretty good out there. Definitely has the offensive tools we hoped to see, but his deficiencies in the defensive zone haven't changed. He needs to play with the right linemates. I'd love to see a scorer like him on a line with a good passer like Giroux, but we might get stuck in our own zone.

Also, did anyone else here that Zherdev wants his first name to be changed from Nikolai to Nikolay?
He had one sequence chasing a guy around behind our net where he looked awfully slow and kept stumbling, which doesn't assuage the concerns I had when we signed him about foot speed...but to his credit, he managed to stick with the play, more or less, and we didn't get burned on it. But aside from that one, he did look just fine out there. Nothing fancy, just a simple game. I think he's gonna work out to be a pretty good depth guy, but I expect we'll see him get burned by quicker players at least a few times this year.

Ever hear of an adjustment period? The whole team went through it last year.

He is a top 9 player on the flyers, what are you talking about?

Wonder how matsumoto has done in Carolina?

He has been around long enough, his play has been lackluster and it has little to do with learning the system right now. His play, for any system, has been avg at best. so then how long of an "adjustement" period do you give him?

I'll give him the first month of the season.

I have a bad feeling about him right now. Much different than a month ago. I think he flops and that contract will kill them, force Shooter at some point to move someone else who is the better player.

He's playing in a smaller role here and will be put in less of a position to fail. He was set up for that in Tampa.

im not worried about Meszaros yet or anyone else yet. guys are learning a new system. very few players are in "mid season form" in September and early October.

Still wont matter if his play is avg or below. He has shown nothing that his last 2 years of avg play are behind him. I hope he pans out, we shall see.

The new system has little to do with the way he has played. He has not looked good, has looked uncomfortable for some reason.

Looking uncomfortable would certainly be a byproduct of learning a new system

I am sure you would have picked up and perfected the left wing lock system by now

Possibly. What i should have said was not confident, indecissive. I dont think that is because of a new system. He needs to get off to a strong start imo or i think he will struggle all year.

You're not serious. You can't be. Well, that or you don't know what you're talking about. Not knowing where everyone is supposed to be on the ice would lead to some indecision with the puck, at least I would think.

We killed it at the start of last year. Went 12-5-3 or something. Then we fell apart.

You have to give 'em longer than that. Last year Matt Carle looked like he was going to get Norris votes in the first month of the season... first month tells you nothing about the way the season is going to go. Everyone is still getting their **** together.

...I'm not sure this is a solid reason to suggest hope given that the primary issue with him is the contract that he has, and has not lived up to.

I'd say it's ok since is a new player coming into a new team, and what we did last year when we changed coaches in the middle of the season. People were complaining about how bad we looked last year in pre-season too.
