For folks who are anxious to see their team pick him up, keep in mind he takes up a roster spot, and he may not be ready to play regularly at the NHL level yet.

If the Oilers were to claim him it would probably mean Eberle starts in OKC or Cogliano gets traded or one of the 3 players starts on the 4th line.
For some reason, I thought Grabner was waiver exempt. If that's not the case, I'm pretty shocked that Florida would take the chance to try and get him in the AHL at this point.
We've seen people in the past who everyone was sure would be claimed, and end up clearing, but I don't know how Grabner doesn't clear, even just to try to get him through waivers themselves.
come on burkie...come on burkie...lord almight it better be us.
Nonis was with the Canucks when they drafted him, so there may be a slight chance. Although I think the Maple Leafs are up against the roster limit for contracts.
I'm a bit shocked by this development. He looked like a very promising young forward on the Canucks. He just needed to be more consistent in his effort.

I can't really understand why the Panthers would waive Grabner .. did he play that poorly at camp?
The kid is very young and doesn't know how to play two-way hockey yet. That said he is still a dangerous weapon offensively and has a fantastic shot. This one is sort of shocking as I was expecting big things from this guy over the next few years.

He was -6, 2 scoring chances, 0 points, in 4 or 5 pre-season games. Absolutely brutal as far as I've read.
And as for his offensive potential — he hasn't even dominated the AHL yet. After three seasons. Guys like Jannik Hansen, Jeff Tambellini, even Kevin Bieksa (defenseman) have shown more scoring ability after one or two seasons in the AHL.
Wow that's hard to believe they didn't even give him a shot? So the trade ends up being a first round pick and Bernier for Ballard?
Still a pretty decent haul, but this really surprises me. Weren't some Nucks fans saying Grabner was going to potentially start top 6 this year before he got traded? He had a great stint up IIRC
