Michael Grabner is on waivers, and I want a claim put in on him. We'd need to get him through waivers too though.

There's no way he falls to us, and if he does...we better claim him. He can't be any worse than Guerin, Carcillo, Nodl, and Powe in our top 9.

Well even if he is, he was waived by the Panthers. You know Holmgren will be like "if he wasn't good enough there, why would he be good enough here?"

You also know Holmgren likes reclamations projects, particularly former 1st round reclamation projects.

EDIT:

Is it a bad thing if I want to claim just in the hope we see him out there once with Briere and Zherdev just because I'm curious to see just how bad defensively a line with unlimited offensive potential can get?

I'd like to see Grabner being claimed and then we'd send him down. What we'd lose if we did that?

whoa. my fantasy draft went well.

down center, i have: jeff carter, datsyuk, brad richards

on wing, nobody great...cept this gagne character, and some bum named lucic.

on defense: pronger, chara, shea weber, timonen.

in goal: ryan miller, and lundqvist.

im pretty pleased.

He'd have to clear waivers for us.

Okay, I might be forced to eat these words for a the next decade or so, but so far Grabner has shown pretty much nothing except a terrible defensive awareness in NHL. Sure, he had a decent spell on with Kesler, but he was also really, really bad in the playoffs for Vancouver last year.

If he can't make this version of the Panthers, I'm sorry, but that's not very impressive.

I'm looking for a good system for my fantasy league to try and give more value to defensive defensemen. Right now my point system is

Goals (G) 1.5
Assists (A) 1
Plus/Minus (+/-) .5
Powerplay Goals (PPG) 1.5
Powerplay Assists (PPA) 1
Shorthanded Goals (SHG) 2
Game-Winning Goals (GWG) 2
Blocks (BLK) .5

This manages to keep the general order of who you think would be the top players, but has Pronger 6th in fantasy points from last year's totals. I had blocks at 1pt per, but that was strange in that Dennis Seidenberg was the no. 2 ranked player in the league in points from last year. Does anyone have a proven system that works?

Meh. Panthers arent really known for making great decisions in the past.

Grabner is one player I'd easily take a chance on. Put him with someone like Richards and he could easily be turned around I think. He is only, what 22, 23 in 2 days?

Grabner-Richards-Carter
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
Zherdev-Giroux-JVR
Shelly-Betts-Powe

Carcillo

Anyway you look at it, thats a sick lineup you have. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt it happens, but I'm just saying. My gut feeling is that the Leafs or Isles easily pick him up.

Morrison was released, so right now he is available also. I doubt we take a chance on him either.

That is VERY similar to my team. Not the same on left wing, but not by choice. Definitely wanted Gagne.

I dont think Grabner is a Holmgren type of player. I mean if we picked him up, we would have to drop Shelley or Walker.
another words, not going to happen.

I guess I shouldn't have said "very" similar, but it does have a lot of similarities, especially on D and in net. Here is my team. It's not exactly like yours, but we do have several of the same players. Here they are (including benchers):

C - Sedin, Zetterberg, B. Richards, M. Richards (essentially your Carter pick)
LW - Parise, Burrows, Smyth
RW - Gaborik, Kessel
D - Pronger, Chara, Timonen, Kubina (gonna be feeding Stamkos on the PP, so he is bound to have a good year)
G - Lundqvist, Broduer, Hilller

PHX just put Joham Baclund on waivers.

Soon it might say

PHI just put Johan Backlund on waivers

Would Erik Ersberg be worth a look to back up Boosh if Bob spends the season in the AHL?

Ersberg sucks and he's just a backup, but I am curious to see how he would do behind this defense.

LA barely gave him a look down the stretch and Quick ended up being worn out by the time the playoffs came. There is a reason for that. He isnt that good.

NHLlive just mentioned Nashville put a claim in on him. Probably should wait for confirmation.

Supposedly NSH put a claim on Ersberg, so that pretty much means he wont be coming here.

I still would like to take a shot at Grabner...doubt he makes it to us and even if he did, doubt Homer takes a shot. Guys that we want to take a shot at, Homer doesnt look their way. Guys we think blow. Homer takes a shot at.

I think Ersberg is fine, but realistically the Flyers won't give it a thought.
