Im happy with the game last night,

that being said it was our complete roster vs. Wings AHL team.

However, i think our team will be a major improvement over last year.

borderline enough that if I was Schenn, I would have gone after a guy who did that to me in a preseason game as well.

A hit doesn't have to be illegal to be career threatening. That was probably an example of that.

However, I might aver that a hip check in the neutral zone that starts with a run of over half the width of the ice surface isn't exactly a traditional hip check and shouldn't be legal.

The question is simply this: why didn't he just throw a shoulder check in the neutral zone? Answer: He was trying to get the guy without any consequences to himself. In professional hockey, that's generally frowned upon.

not dirty enough to warrant a penalty, but enough that you can't really blame Schenn for kicking Abdelkader's ass for doing it

....if that even makes sense

Yeah, legal hip check but looked like he only got Schenn half way, taking out a leg.

Can't complain about the preseason, record should be 6-3. If they carry that winning percentage into the regular season I'll be stoked.

Nice to have at least one line that can score rather than just one player like last year... Should have a better start (going out on limb).

You know, I'm really starting to get annoyed by HNIC. Around the time they lost the theme song, everything seems to have gone down hill it seems with their broadcast.

I specially cannot stand Hughson, Simpson, and Healy. Three douches boiling over in hate.

Healy last night ranted about Gigučre went up to the bench when the Leafs were called for a penalty and how he should pay more attention, be more unison with the team. What I don't get is where Healy gets off even having an opinion on Gigučre. Gigučre would probably contribute more to this team if he skated off in the middle of a game to take a crap, then Healy ever had with the Leafs.

And then you have that hateful Hughson who always has to go out of his way to point out how inferior the Leafs are. When Grabo deked the Wings player last night, Hughson went out of his way to comment how it was an "AHL Defensmen" that Grab went around. Is he for real?

I bet you, he was just praying for a blowout by the Wings last night.

I actually don't mind Simpson.

But Hughson is the driest play by play guy in history, and Healey is just an idiot.

Leafs played some good and some poor hockey throughout the exhibition season.

The best news is that despite playing 9 games (cash $$ opportunity for MLSE), we escaped the preseason without any serious injuries and enter the new year with our full roster in tact.

Other teams have lost some key personnel and Leafs can't really afford to lose anyone as all hands on deck are going to be required on a regular basis.

I find it just sad that teams like Pittsburg and Buffalo have commentators that put ours to shame. The CBC broadcast has two westerners and an arrogant ex backup. I wish someone would fire a puck off Healy's forehead when he's mid sentence hackin on their game

The real funny part is that the defenseman that Grabo walked around was Ericsson, not an AHLer

what i've noticed is that komi and kabs need to be paired together... similar to caber and kabs, komi needs kaberle to be semi responsible on D... positionally, not physically. I would have Schenn paired with Phaneuf forcing schenn to play stronger D; positionally and physically.

I'd like to thank Schenn for beating on Abdelkader. I think I'm the only Wings fan who doesn't like that guy.

It's a shame the Leafs didn't play their best Defenceman in Training Camp, Danny Richmond, his skating and skill level far out ranks Gunnarsson at this point in their Careers. Kid was lights out in London hasn't gotten a Sniff since, probably the Management doesn't want their hand picked guy's to be Embarrassed by his Superior Play.

i think that "hip check" clearly fell under the criteria for a clipping call. he went for schenns knees and only caught 1 leg, and if the refs are going to give out cheap charging calls like the one on brown last night then they should be consistent about it. if that was a regular season i would of been mad. 19 mins in penalty for sticking up for yourself? thats garbage. schenn could of got seriously hurt.

I have no problem with the production values of HNIC. The intermission stuff is generally a top-notch production. I do however have a problem with Hughson and Simpson and the way they call Leafs games. It makes me miss the days of senile Bob Cole.

Komiserak is a nightmare waiting to happen when he handles the puck, Beauchimen lacks the stickhandling and common sense to make a good pass out of the zone. Phaneuf is average in this area.
Can't put it all on the D buds.

Forwards have to put themselves in a position to receive the puck also and make sure there is a direct line to their stick for a defenceman to pass it to.

The forwards can't just skate straight up ice and hope the defenceman gets it to one of them.

You want a penalty for hip checking? Okay. And if Schenn didn't want to get a penalty for instigating maybe he shouldn't have instigated a fight. But of course here in Leaf land we'll fall in love with anybody who drops the gloves even if it's detrimental to the team.

Also not impressed with Phaneuf standing still watching that pass to Tatar on the second Wings goal. Tatar was the only man he was (supposed to be) covering and he was nowhere near him.
