I was at that game and wouldn't say there was an "overwhelming" amount of booing...but there were a few. Not a good idea to announce that on a night we open the preseason against the wings!

Hey all the kudos to the chi fam doing this for cheli. he spent a bunch of years there and was the face for a while. You wanna start acting like a champ. franchise year after year ya better act like it and this is another good example of why the hawks will get respect outside of chicago, not just bc of their winning...

it will go along way

Umm....that's not a photoshop.... That's exactly how that picture looks. It is a big reason why Hawks' fans hate Chelios so much. Here's a quarter, go buy a clue.

It certainly looks shopped, but its 100% real. That's a picture from the Blackhawks 75th anniversary. The Hawks gave Cheli a Hawks sweater, but he refused to wear it or even hold it up (you can see it crumbled up in his arms).

He was on the Wings, I can understand why he wouldn't put on the jersey.

People have to get over the business side of hockey.

The "business side of hockey" should include the Blackhawks REMOVING "Chelios" night.

I, for one, have written my letter of outrage. Why would you honor such a ******* of a man? It sullies the wonderful memorable nights of Pilote, Savard, Probert, etc. who were TRUE Blackhawks at heart.

Guaranteed that sorry SOB doesn't put on a Hawks jersey for his "BLACKHAWKS" heritage night. Jagoff.

I don't care that he didn't put on the Hawks sweater but IMO it was "amateurish" of him to wear the Wings sweater...just wear regular clothes.

As for the "business side of hockey" - the Hawks are selling out the stadium and getting good TV ratings. You don't need to sell Chelios to get fans. OTOH, if he WANTED to be honored AS A HAWK, then I can see doing it because it is good to value our history but if he doesn't want to be honored as a hawk....then it truly is a public relations fail.

Amateurish is not a word I'd use to describe what he did.

Vindictive, selfish and arrogant are much closer to the mark.

He's a complete **** and shouldn't be allowed in the building, let alone get a night dedicated to him.

Just my 2 cents.

Chris Chelios is a class act. You can tell by his DUIs.

Ahhh how that story changes...According to many ... and discussed on this board oh so many years ago according to the archives ....Chelios wasn't the main culprit BUT he was the guy who coughed up cash afterwards to pay for damages.

Also, if the Red Wings management is to be believed - he also was the guy (as a player) that "ran herd" on other players at restaraunts to make sure people acted respectfully and paid bills with sizable tips.

As for the DUI charge...it was dropped....but it was in all the news and I guess many people just assume he was guilty even though technically he hasn't even been charged.

I guess I just don't have the hate that some have for the guy...he was always a stand up guy whenever I met him. I am sure he isn't a saint by any means but I personally loved the fact that he was willing to go play for the Wolves in his 40's. After such a long career, the guy still loves hockey and I respect that. It is so much easier for me to like a guy like Chelios than many modern day football players...look at the talent being wasted by Tommie Harris...got his pay day and he has't been the same since. You have to give a guy something for his love f the game

Look at the thread title - that says it all. It's not about Chelios being a jack ass or about the Blackhawks fans not being "classy". The guy is working for the Red Wings and then the Blackhawks PR department wants him to wear the Hawks sweater on a night they're playing the Wings. He participated in the ceremony like a professional, and considering the circumstances I'm fine with that.

Chelios is one of the biggest tools that ever played hockey. He participated in a charity hockey game a few years back and then basically refused to sign autographs for fans who paid extra for a reception following the game. He ignores fans, and his last year playing he ignored his team, going to the olympics, going to the NCAA frozen four games, etc.

The charges were dropped for his videotaped DUI were dropped under somewhat suspicious circumstances.

I do not care what he did as a red wing but there are other Hawks that deserve a night more than he did.

To be fair to Thibault

He did have a productive career with Hawks including an ASG appearance

Okay, you've got me there. Fair enough. And I actually really liked Passmore - more for his personality than anything (I'll never forget the piece he wrote for THN where he replied, when asked about being a backup if the Hawks were to win the Cup, that he would be honored just to have his name on it, even if it meant minimal ice time and a secondary role... just was a very honorable position to take for a pro athlete, I think).
