Brooks saying a well placed source is stating that little to no improvement expected after this two week waiting period. Also, it would be no surprise if he required season ending, and possibly career ending surgery.

Not good.

Good thing the Rangers gave Prospal $1.4 million in bonuses and just $1.08 million in guaranteed money. If the Rangers are at the upper limit, they can put/move Prospal to LTI and use the $1 million on other players.

If there is no structural damage as was reported on Friday/Saturday but inflammation exists, rest is prescribed. If rest doesn't solve the issue, not much can be done. What is surgery going to correct? Going forward a knee replacement is a possibility. Quality of life issue more than playing hockey issue.

Drury will be back within 10 days of the season starting. Drury,Christensen,Stepan,Anisimov,Boyle and Kennedy. The Rangers have more depth at center than last season.

So with Prospal being over 35 does his cap hit stay on even if he is on the Long Term Injured list?

Signing Kennedy and hopefully now Fedotenko was pretty smart in the end if so

and we resigned this guy why ? hes old and damaged. and now hes 50-50 as to whether hell even play.

so were almost to the beginning of camp and we have no prospal. no capt quaalude and were still wondering if stepan makes the team ?

it would be something if our centers looked like this, until capt quaalude returns

dubi
arty
kennedy
white/boyle

gaborik and hank will be looking for a trade within weeks.

RangerBoy will say it better than me but salaries still count against the cap when a player is placed on LITR.

I could be totally wrong but I taught if it is a one year deal for an over 35 player the salary can come off the cap if put on LTR or waived.

May very well be why so much of his contract is in bonuses.

Well, that sucks.

It does not. Anyone is eligible to be placed on LTIR and have their cap hit removed while they're there, but it has to be a legitimate inury.

ok thats good then. Bottom line is yea it blows cause Prospal helped alot last year but this team needs to get younger so it opens a future spot for a guy like MZA this year

So cap hit of 35+ players don't count when the player is placed on IR? Hm, didn't know that, thanks.

LTIR, not IR. I can't remember the exact qualifications off the top of my head, but it has to be something that would take the player out for several months. It's probably only going to be an option for Prospal if he ends up having surgery.

Bill Guerin released by Flyers. Rangers insist they are committed to getting younger, but if Prospal out long-term....hmmm

lol. Zipay is all over collecting other teams garbage.

We have Fedotenko to fill our RW spot. No point getting Guerin.

If Prospal does indeed miss the season, wouldn't they be credited the 1.4M in bonuses since they are unattainable, thus providing an additional 1.4M in cap. How exactly does the bonus/bonus cushion tie in with LTIR?

On a team with zero creativity -- how on earth does it help us to replace Vinny Prospal with Guerin???

My guess is as good as anyone, but with the roster we have, does anyone think we will be able to score goals from around game 20 of the season to game 82? What have changed from last season? A Prospal, who were producing, a Jokinen at the end, for Frolov, Fedetenko and Stepan...

We desperately need some creativity...

Technically, they have not yet been applied since they haven't been achieved.

no to bill guerin.

conceivably, we could be a whole team made up of waiver wire pickups and trash heap reclaimation projects.

its a glenn sather wet dream

and we can still finish 6th in the east !!!

Bob McKenzie just stated on NHL Live that he wouldn't be surprised if Prospal needed something done again(in terms of going back in and fixing something) which would keep him out far longer than 2 weeks.

I was wary about re-signing Prospal because he is just coming off knee injury, is 35-years-old, etc., but this is far worse than I imagined.

It's a good thing he is only signed for one year. I wonder if the Rangers knew Prospal was still having issues with his knee when they invited Fedotenko as a tryout...

At this point in our team's development I don't think more vets are the solution.

Lets face it, we're not going to be a particularly strong team this season, barring any complete surprises. So if that's the case, why not just play some kids and let them get experience. Now I'm not one for fielding a team chock full of prospects, but I would prefer that we get something out of this season, like experience for the youth, instead of a possible early playoff exit. So essentially bring some of the guys up, but don't make it the AHL Rangers at the same time.

We're in a tough spot, in terms of team composure. Injuries to the vets we already have signed doesn't make it any easier.

Guerin is a good person, but as a hockey player... not anymore. Hang 'em up.

Never liked Bill Guerin, don't want him on this team.
