Benoit Brunet talks about criticism he gets as an analyst

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hoc...a-critique.php

In short: He is aware of the critics he gets online. Tries to improve especially his French. Compares his critics to those Yves Pedneault got and believes his successor will likely face them too. He believes part of the problem is the number of games he is involved in (129 + shows last year) since RDS is a monopoly for Hockey in French and there is no one else he can be compared to. Some try to compare him to Gilles Tremblay but that is not fair since Tremblay was on the radio and TV for 28 years. Although he is not personally concerned with the critics, he would consider quitting if his kids were being harassed at school.

Everyone knows what to do now?

I personally don't find him that terrible.

He seems sensitive about the issue. Imagine if he was a non francophone on this decades Habs. He would be crying is little heart out.

lol.

I personally can't stand him as a commentator. However its a job, and I can't feel particularly good about making the guy feel bad and wanting to quit if his kids are harassed. imo thats a little to far.

I lost any respect I had for Brunet when he said:

''Latendresse est le meilleur marquer naturel de cette équipe''

When the team had Koivu, Kovalev, Higgins, Streit etc.

Definitely. Brunet is pretty bad, but I've developed some kind of pity for him, the same kind of pity you get for bad-looking stray dogs when you see them. I can't wait for the day somebody else takes his job, but then again, I understand why it sucks so much for him to get criticized over and over again. He needs to go back to the intermission squad and let somebody who's more fluent and concise handle the analyst spot.

In the meanwhile, we don't really have a choice but to live with him and hope he gets better over time. And please guys, don't find where his kids go to school and harass them.

Because it is a monopoly, we deserve EVEN MORE to get THE BEST possible.

I don't blame Benoit Brunet... I mean, I'm not even sure he sent his CV for the job.

I BLAME 100% Gerry Frappier on this (RDS prez). Frikkin dofus, consistently hiring dofuses like Le Baron as "experts"... While the other networks have the Dany Dubé, Ron Fournier, McGuire etc.
I can't believe CKAC can pay Dubé or Fournier or McGuire as much as RDS can pay their squad.

It's a known fact that Frappier likes to hire his friends, especially when they played in the NHL before. It's a pretty bad bias, but it's nothing new. Anyway, they can hire who they want, people don't have a choice but to tune in if they wanna watch all Habs games.

What MAG neglected to include in his article is that many of us can't stand Brunet's constant negativity towards the team and some players in particular. I didn't particularly like Marc-André Bergeron but I cheered when he scored and jeered when he messed up. But for Brunet, his hatred of a player like Andrei K. is so evident and it just stinks of unprofessionalism. It's a preseason game, AK's not even in the lineup, and Brunet manages to critisize him. AK makes a good play and Brunet is quick to point out how badly he normally plays. But if Guillaume or Marc-André screw up, he quickly defends them with nonsense.

It would have been a better article had the main reasons that people hate Brunet been presented.

Agreed.

However, there's only one way to rationalize Brunet's bad work; at least he's not Jack Edwards.

And man, Mathias is spot on.

And as weird as it may seems, I agreed even more with Réjean Tremblay a few years ago when he said than Ben Brunet was mediocre but it was ultimately RDS that was to blame cause they hired the guy and even worse, they keep him in place year after year.

Great article

It's gotten to the point where I pray that the games are either covered by CBC or TSN. If not I reluctantly "settle" for RDS. I shouldn't feel this way. And that's why Brunet gets ravaged the way he does

Why wasn't he questionned on the topic of his negativity towards the team, Andrei Kostitsyn in particular? I mean, he wants to prove that he is doing what it takes to get better, man up to your biased opinion and fix it. And never sit behind a desk when talking about Latendresse, I'm tired of seeing that cup of coffee getting knocked off.

At least Edwards is mostly positive about his team. I kind of snickered after I typed mostly.

He is. However, unlike Brunet, he seems completely incapable of achieving some sort of perspective and rationality. The Bruins can do no harm, and other teams can only harm them in dirty and unclassy ways.
