I think the cap hit stays but the team is allowed to exceed the cap by the amount of the players salary. Makes a bit of a difference for a team near the top versus one who is trying to save cash at the bottom. But I'd defer to Rangerboy, he's the real Cap/CBA expert.

It sounds like he is done. Prospal was good for us and a very good NHL player for a number of years. Let's hope Fedotenko and others can make the most of their opportunities.

Prospal will be a big loss. Anyone bashing him needs to get their heads checked. The guy plays hard produces well for what his salary is. You don't find many players who legitimately want to come to a team and play for cheap. Vinny is a rare and dying breed, and I hope he's back soon.

Signing Kennedy and hopefully now Fedotenko was pretty smart in the end if so
35 plus only comes into play for multi-year contracts. Even if Prospal was in the 2nd year of a 35 plus contract,he could be put on LTI and the Rangers could use his money on other players. The NHL allowed the Devils to put Mogilny on LTI during his 2nd year of the 35 plus contract.

You got it. LTI allows an a team at or near the upper limit to exceed the upper limit.

Quote:
50.10
(d) Bona-Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception to the Upper Limit. In
the event that a Player on a Club becomes unfit to play (i.e., is injured, ill or disabled and
unable to perform his duties as a hockey Player) such that the Club's physician believes,
in his or her opinion, that the Player, owing to either an injury or an illness, will be unfit
to play for at least (i) twenty-four (24) calendar days and (ii) ten (10) NHL Regular
Season games, and such Club desires to replace such Player, the Club may add an
additional Player or Players to its Active Roster, and the replacement Player Salary and
Bonuses of such additional Player(s) may increase the Club's Averaged Club Salary to an
amount up to and exceeding the Upper Limit,
solely as, and to the extent and for the
duration, set forth below. If, however, the League wishes to challenge the determination
of a Club physician that a Player is unfit to play for purposes of the Bona-Fide Long-
Term Injury/Illness Except ion, the League and the NHLPA shall promptly confer and
joint ly select a neutral physician, who shall review the Club physician's determination
regarding the Player's fitness to play.

Prospal (right knee) may not be able to play at all. If the Rangers decide after the currently prescribed two-week rest period that Prospal requires surgery, they can put him on long-term injury and, if necessary, replace his full $2.48 million including bonuses, NHL VP Bill Daly told The Post in an email

Saving up some of this cap room over the course of the season could leave us room for a pretty big salary acquisition at the deadline.

I was afraid of this. Prospal's knee has been blowing up while skating with no direct contact made to it. It's just been flaring up when he skates. Leads me to believe the surgery he had was sloppy, or might need alot more time than expected to heal.

He's no spring chicken; been over here since the early 90s and been an NHLer since the Rangers went to the Conference Finals in 1997.

It would stink but whatever, just play the kids and honestly, I'd take a chance on Mikael Grabner if he's not taken by Toronto or the Islanders.

Brutal news unless his production can be replaced. He gave it his all. I'm very sad to hear this.

Same here. Production aside, I love his enthusiasm and work ethic / leadership. He's a good role model for the youth too. I hope he can come back at 100% at some point this season. Even if his production drops a bit, he's a steal at that salary (yes, even with the bonus). He was one of the few bright spots last year.

Damn, feel bad for Prospal but in all honestly i felt he wouldnt have had such a great season this year. Now im not saying i dont like the guy and his effort. I think he is a good soldier and a leader, but maybe this isnt the worse thing that can happen to a team with all of this depth (however mediocre the depth may seem). Gotta stay on the bright side, at least its an older veteran going down that probably was in his last year here anyway.

Good luck to Prospal though, tough to hear this.

Guy showed the most passion last year when scoring goals and was fun to watch with Gaborik...Wouldn't be surprised to see MZA up sooner rather than later if he plays well in the A with one of our offensive weapons subtracted from the lineup.

Vinny was proud to wear the blueshirt and it showed in his play. It was a joy to watch him with Gaborik last season and he will surely be missed.....loved having him on this team. So sad if this is the end of his NHL career.

Loved watching Vinny score last year, that was a guy that really loved the game of hockey. Hope the news isn't right, and he can get out there after 2 weeks rest, but it doesn't seem good. At least Vinny can cash those buyout checks from Tampa for the next 5 years lol.
