Pollak just arrived (and even though he flew from SJC, DFW, London, Stockholm, claims he's had a better day that Lilja).

Will report on more details as he gets them.

Good

Unless Wallin was on the way out there simply was no room for Lilja. If Wallin could be replaced with Lilja though, I would have weeped for joy.

I'm fine with a young kid getting a shot.

Much more likely we are giving the young guys a chance.

Yea, your right on that. I guess if the D is going to suck, its a great time to get some young guys in there for the experience. Maybe one of these guys will suprise us

Yeah, that was great. Now he'll have to go all the way back to his family in Detroit.

Now Lilja gets released, while in Sweden of all places.
This has really been a strange off season.
As a reward? Because if a goalie is injured, they have a backup? Because he's on the team and we don't want to put him on waivers?

As far as Lilja; good to see the Sharks like what they have in our youth. It probably has to do with ice time for Lilja.

He probably just wanted too much money, and DW wasn't willing to give him what he was asking for.

I should be ecstatic about this... but instead i just feel kinda bad for the the guy.

But this was definitely the right move. Yay for Moore!

I had a sense that we were either working a trade or Lilja's agent was negotiating for more than minimum. He seemed to have a good enough camp to get signed. TMac must be a little red-faced advocating for his guy then watching him walk. The surprise to me as this has evolved is that Moore is subject to waivers and that has to play into the decision. It would appear he is the guy that has made the team.

from WTC ...

“Our young guys played very well and everybody’s healthy,” Sharks GM Doug Wilson told me when I reached him by phone. “He had a very good camp and made it competitive for us, but that’s the decision we made and we wish him the best.”
Applying the Niemi / Greiss logic here... if Lilja made this team better, he'd have a contract regardless of who may have looked to be next in line.

I think management didn't like what they saw.

There is no Niemi Greiss logic. Especially since Greiss has by all accounts looked the best in camp.

I just dont think he was a large enough upgrade over any of the younger guys so they let him walk.

Absolutely. And, we already have an abundance of the Lilja types. Moore alone has had a good solid camp and along with already doing his time in the 'A', he at the least deserves a shot to prove himself with us. Otherwise, D.W. knows he will do so elsewhere and as you stated, he (or another) may actually turn out to be a good surprise for us.

Niemi was signed before camp on the premise he was already better than Greiss.

Your last sentence is exactly what I was saying.

My feeling is he simply wanted too much money, DW was looking for a bargain and didn't get it. He did the right thing.

If Moore (or Schaus, Irwin, Joslin, etc) don't pan out, he can and will make a trade later to solve the problem.

I'm kinda surprised. Wish he didn't give Wallin his NTC, so he could be a dick to him instead and swap him for Lilja at a mil or so.

He can always waive him and send him to the minors.

Looks bad, but I think future free agents would understand if you are overpayed by 1.5 million, have a NTC and injured, you're liable to be waived- but hey at least you make 2.5 for nothing.

It is truly incredible that Wallin got a raise despite not even being worth a paycut.

Hey, maybe it's so high so we can waive him during the season and bring him back for the playoffs with no worries of someone picking him up?

That won't help with the cap though, no? 35 rule and all?

He had to be 35 by June. His birthday is in July. I think that's how it works.

Doesn't that only apply to multi-year contracts?
