“Obviously, I didn't achieve what I wanted to in this camp,” Pelech said. “I thought I had a good chance to come in and make the team. I didn't play as well as I need to make it. So obviously, it's not a great feeling.”

“Whether I'm in Abbotsford or get picked up, I just have to work as hard as I can, to get to the NHL,” he said. “That's the way it's been for the last couple of years.”

“There's a lot of good d-men on this team,” said Pelech, 23. “It's a tough one to crack, especially with how well T.J. played too. I could kind of see it coming a bit.”
I have to say I'm kind of surprised by this but then again I'm not either. He's a former 1st rounder of the Flames and I think he was definitely in the teams long term plans of the team. But when you look at it, he had somewhat of a underwhelming camp and was out played by Pardy. So I guess the Flames feel they willing to risk putting him on waivers and potentially losing him. Hopefully he does not claimed, I still think he could develop into a fairly decent defencman. It looks as though he is still 2-3 years away from that though.

He's already 23, so 2-3 years away would make him 25-26 which is pretty late to break in. There's not a lot of Matt Carkner's in the league. They are there, but the chances are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Agreed, I just think Pelech has the potential and tools, it just seems like his development is much slower than others.

Can you really have 'tools' when all you bring is size? He's positively glacial when it comes to his speed, and brings nothing offensively. Remember how so many people hated on Aucoin for being so slow? At least he put up 40 points.

Pelech is not that slow, he is of average speed... and i love how you ignore physicality and positioning as if they aren't tools as well... and ther eis a huge differnce between Pelech and Aucoin... 2 comepletely dfferent styles... Pelech is more of a Regehr/Sarich type... Aucoin was more like Phaneuf/Souray in his prime
Too slow is my take. Whatever chances he had as the 6th or 7th dman went out the window with Brodie pushing his way onto the roster.
Unless u moved our SAH guys like Sarich or Reggie, there simply was no room with him vs Brodie.
