I would have loved this trade if we hadn't waived Parent... I hope he doesn't get claimed. If he doesn't, if we ever want to call him up he'll be picked up on re-entry for sure.

I guess they believe that SOB will be picked up at 800k so they'll be off the hook for his salary, while Parent is on a one way and would have to otherwise pay him?

Thats the only thing that makes sense in my head, and i'm not even sure thats correct... or since he has a two way he'll make AHL money?

wait, how does this save cap also?

SOB = 1.6?

Parent + Anderson = 1.6?

So the only way cap is saved is if somebody claims him, if not then they both go too the moose.

confusing

Sure, but SOB proved he could play very effective 20+ min a game last season with all the injuries, people seem to forget.

Well it's kind of a dead point if both guys start on the Moose; seems like Anderson is ineligible for waivers (possibly due to lack of NHL games played?). Unlike Nashville the Canucks have no issue ditching one-way contracts in the minors. I'm assuming the Preds wanted that $1.6 million in salary actually playing on their NHL team.

Because we our going with seven defencemen and Rome is better/ cheaper.

Poor Ryan Parent. First the Preds gave up his pick in the draft, then got it back, then traded him to Philly, then got him back, then traded him to Vancouver.

Do the Canucks have any room for Andersson right now? I don't know enough about their injuries or their lineup.

If Andersson didn't make Preds roster, I doubt he'll make Vancouver's.

I think people on here are completely overrating Ryan Parent. Because he is a former top-pick, and top-prospect, and because most have not seen him play a lot of games...

There is a reason he was released.... He might not be very good people.

The canucks made this deal simply tonsave salary if/when Parent gets claimed off waivers. It will save them 600k plus open up a contract spot that they can then sign Schaefer with. Canucks are still trying to get under the salary cap. I don't this is the only move they make before rosters are frozen tomorrow.

This trade makes sense for both teams.

Please note that, from what I read, SOB was never assigned to the Moose. He should not have to go on re-entry to play for Nashville.

Nashville pays SOB 1.6 to play on their NHL team instead of Parent 900k to play in the AHL.

1 of 2 things happens for Vancouver:

a) Parent is claimed. Vancouver reduces its contract # by 1. This gives them greater flexibility down the line and is what they were hoping would happen if SOB got claimed in the first place.

b) Parent clears. Vancouver just acquired a project defensemen with decent potential for free AND SOB isn't around our prospects.

Win-win.

He's signed for another year so he would have a shot at being on the bottom pairing next year but if he gets picked up it will at least free up a contract.

Only thing I can think of why Nashville would do this is if they don't want to commit money for Parent next year.

I don't understand why Nashville didn't just pick O'Brien up from waivers...

You got it CFV. Parent + Andersson =SOB contract wise BUT Andersson and Parent can go to Manitoba. Andersson can go directly to the AHL without waivers. Parent does.

Also, SOB is on a one year contract and that will create a roster spot for Jon Blum next year.

SOB isn't worth 1.6M... Why would Nashville pay one player that much? Yeah paying parent in the AHL would be a bummer but it would've given us more depth...

I am very confused unless Nashville moves someone else...
