Then let the Rangers make the moves. Sounds like they might have a better idea of whats going on than you.

Huh? Obviously you haven't watched Valentenko and McDonagh. And even with Gilroy gone, we have 6 defensemen.

Obviously if they felt that Valentenko and McDonagh were the best options, they would have made the team.

Look, I'm not a huge Gilroy fan and I have great concerns about him, I just don't see how he plays into this scenario with White and Kennedy.

Christensen plays without any grit or energy, he doesn't really get his nose dirty, he really hasn't done anything to stay with the team.

Given Slats's comments...

#NYRangers GM Glen Sather says Kennedy and White on waivers to give team cap flexibility in case they want to absorb another contract.

#NYRangers GM Glen Sather says he has no interest on anybody on the waiver wire today. A little surprised not to see more names on list.
[Gross on Twitter]

...anyone else get the feeling that this was purely a function of who they speculated MIGHT be on waivers?

I don't know how the logistics of the whole thing works, but I imagine that in order to have a player pass through waivers on a given day you need to submit the paperwork prior to noon. But the league doesn't release which players have been waived UNTIL noon, all at once. So, the Rangers thinking that someone like perhaps Langenbrunner might get waived today, put the requisite salaries on waivers to clear the room to claim him in case when noon rolled around his name was there.

Now that Langenbrunner (or whomever else they might have thought would get put on waivers) was NOT one of the names that popped up, maybe White and Kenneday stay with the team after all... (assuming that they in turn don't get claimed).

If McD and Valentenko were ready for the NHL, they wouldn't have been cut and sent down to the AHL. It's not going to kill them to play a year in the AHL. In fact, it's probably better for them to mature instead of being slaughtered in the big league. And if you kept up with what the coaching staff and Sather have been saying, they want to roll with 14 forwards (2 extra), and 7 defensemen (1 extra) in case of injuries.

If something were to go down, this is what they'd address IMO.

I still don't think a move will be made and the space will be kept open.

But you do see how it makes sense to waive Kennedy?

Sense? I don't know. I think it's pretty much a non-issue that really won't impact this team either way.

How is that?

You the team would be unimpacted whether it was Kennedy or Christensen waived?

Really? Then riddle me this: Why were they sent down?

You think, maybe, because the coaching staff feels they aren't ready?

Oh, but you know better, right? lol

And yeah, we'd have 6 dmen. Torts has said he intends to carry 7. I'll do the math for you. That means we need 1 more dman.

Christensen is a lot more valuable to this team than Kennedy is. And I don't even like him too much.

We missed the playoffs because this bum only managed 2 goals in the final 15 games. And now he gets re-signed for 2 seasons and gets a free ride between Frolov and Gaborik, while a good gritty young player is waived instead.

This is just idiotic move, now you can bet the Islanders will claim Kennedy.
Right on. Ill take Captain Valiums 3 goals in the last 15 games any day of the week.

maybe because they were not waiver eligible and there are only 7 spots available.

Do you think Gilroy is better defenseman that those 2?

How much did Gaborik score after the olympic break? Wasn't a hell of a lot, I know that.

Really? how? Does he score lots of goals, does he make great passes, does he hit, does he kill penalties, does he provide leadership, does he have amazing work ethic, does he skate like the wind, does he drop gloves to protect his teammate?
