People do realize that "put on waivers" doesn't necessarily mean the guy is going anywhere right? After clearing waivers, the team has up to 30 days to assign him to an AHL team, otherwise they would need to place him on waivers again before sending him down. Maybe the Sens thought this was the best time to pass him through so that they could be ready to send him down when Kuba returns.
Sometimes I think fans associate the word "waivers" with "cut" and that's not actually the case at all.

This must be right. This is the best time to get him under the radar (i.e. not claimed), assuming that such a threat even exists! 30 days is plenty of time for Kuba's return; plus we have Brian Lee (barf).
(UPDATE 2:00 PM)- Bryan Murray clarified the move and stated he is sending David Hale to Binghamton, assuming he clears. That means Brian Lee will start the season in the Sens top 6 on the back end.
It is difficult to understand why Hale wasn't just sent down with the last cuts, unless Murray has info on a player thta will be waived today that interests him.
It is also possible it is about saving cap dollars or to showcase Lee for a possible trade, but if either of these senarios were true, then why keep Hale for 3 days after the final cut?
