Good for DW not giving in to Lilja's contract demands and/or finally realizing that Lilja isn't much of an upgrade of what the Sharks already have. I'm still worried about the defense, but Lilja wouldn't have solved the problem.

I'm guessing DW figured his play wasn't enough of an upgrade to pass over the young guys, especially since Moore would have to clear waivers. With the lack of interest in Lilja, can't imagine he was trying to drive a hard deal on comp. TSN article mentions his visa is up October 10 so if he doesn't find a team he has to leave the U.S. and his kids are enrolled in school in Detroit. Doesn't sound good from a family perspective.

CBA requires "flight home" from training camp, so if that's Detroit, that's where the final destination will be.

He has to go through waivers. That's how we got him IIRC and I am pretty sure I do, but after my last blunder, I'm not guaranteeing anything today
