There is, like body contact, where O'Brien once again was not nearly as effective as Alberts. Couple that with the cringe worth holding penalties O'Brien used to take any time he'd try to get physical along the boards...

Glad the distraction is gone.

O'Brien could end up as a #4 guy on a team with a relatively weak defense and no media spotlight to distract him.
Like a lot of people have already said, he's not as gritty as he's made out to be. But he's also more reliable defensively than he's given credit for.

So is SOB going to get claimed?

I think The Rangers will put in a claim. Tortarello knows him. They could use a 5th Left Dman..............He would be good versus division rivals

i just think the tag is a tad high. But it is only one yr

Curious to see if someone claims O'Brien at that 1.6 pricetag. It's hefty, but from a Rangers standpoint, I'd rather have him as the #7 and dress for games like the Flyers as opposed to keeping Eminger around.

glad they didnt take him for the full pop. Perhaps Eminger for OBrien or re-entry?

The Canucks won't put him on re-entry waivers because then they'd be on the hook for $800,000 in dead cap space and they are still right around the cap number. They would certainly be willing to take a "better" contract like Eminger's in return for him, though. I'm sure they'll shop him around to see if they can pick up someone cheaper than $1.6 million for him to bury in the minors and save money from what they would have paid O'Brien.

Add Ottawa to that list because apparently our coaching staff thinks David Hale belongs on the roster.

That's players that were waived Sunday. These guys were waived Saturday, and have cleared today.

Scraper???

SOB had some inspired moments, but it's not hard to see him as a liability because of the off-ice stuff and the $1.6 mil price tag.

So what now for O'Brien? Does he go through re-entry waivers at some point or will they just buy him out?

He's gone to the Peg, we won't bring him back. We won't buy him out. He'll stay there for the year unless they can trade him but Gillis tried to trade him already.

The fourth line will likely be Glass - Rypien - Desbiens, but Rypper is injured right now, so Glass - Bolduc - Desbiens to start the season.

You hated playing against O'Brien and Hordichuk? We hated actually playing them on the ice because it usually meant we weren't getting out of our zone.

We know O'Brien was traded today but since Hordichuk also cleared, what's happening to him? Has he been assigned to Manitoba yet? I imagine if he hasn't yet that he will be very soon.

Meh, Desbiens is not worse of a fighter than Hordichuk. I think the Canucks are going more for having just tough players on the 4th line rather than useless fighters that play 3 minutes yet take two minor penalties like Hordi.

What the heck are those guys going to do in their like 6 minutes of ice time that should require us to dress someone who can't play hockey.
