Andrew Peters brings three things to mind.

1) The golf swing vs Leafs
2) Being bitten by Ruutu
3) Fighting Ray Emery

NO!!!!! God damn it!!

Why on earth do we insist on carrying players like this on the roster. Hordichuk was done with this team, and now we get stuck with Peters??

Don't mind this. Peters is much bigger and more intimidating, but is a worse hockey player (shudder). However, he's also cheaper.

this trade confuses me.

If Florida wanted Hordichuk, why not pick him up on waivers? Peters is on a two way deal.. he makes a pittance in the minors.

Number of contracts? I think they're pretty close to the limit.

You must've forgotten a , right? Peters is going straight to the Moose, he was already waived and re-assigned to the minors.

I guess we wanted a legitimate heavy-weight kicking around in the system somewhere. At least the guy is cheap and on a two-way; saves ownership some money and gives Hordi a NHL opportunity.

Peters is on a $500,000 two way contract. That's the type of goon I like. One who can easily go between us and the Moose.

yeah but he's on a two way deal. And his NHL salary is only $500k. So he can be demoted and because he makes so little can be brought back up without re-entry waivers.

As teams finalize rosters the # of contracts seems to always play a role. Teams can't simply take players off waivers, rather they need to trade a contract for a contract.

As for the trade. This is Gillis showing some respect to Hordichuk. Nothing more. Peters will likely be sent down.

EDIT: Didn't realize he was already waived and assigned to minors. Tidies that up nicely.

Goes back to Gillis' philosophy of not burying NHL players (to contracts that he signed) in the minors. Both players likely will be waived and demoted to the AHL by their new teams, but hopefully with less baggage than being demoted by their existing teams.

yeah, the confusion is why Florida would make this trade.. seems to have zero upside for them. Good trade for the Canucks however.

Haters going to hate but fighting is a part of the game that isn't going away despite the rising amount of estrogen in men today. I'd much rather have a 6'4 guy top ten guy than an undersized guy who's admired for his effort in fights more than his ability to blast people in the face. All I know is jersey punches for the win. Although I have a feeling Peters is going to the Moose.

Yeah his AHL salary is only $75,000 so potentially he saved Aquaman up to $675,000. That has to make your owner smile.

He's not being buried. He's on a 2-way deal. That deal was signed with the assumption that playing in the minors was a legitimate possibility, and also I believe that Peters was already waived and possibly assigned to the AHL by Florida. Peters was AHL-bound already, but he managed to theoretically find Hordy a place to play in the NHL.

725,000. Hordichuk's real-money salary this year is 800,000.

Peters fight card:

http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/...htcard/reg2010

9 (seemed to win about 50%) fights in 29 games for the Devils last year; but managed to be a -5 playing 5:11 minutes on average so outside of beating people up he looks quite terrible.
