So....

if Lappy retires he stops getting paychecks and we are stuck with his cap hit, both the team and player are screwed.

if Lappy goes on LTIR he gets his paychecks and the team gets cap space, both he and the team wins.

If that is how it works, I am not really sure where "ethics" come into play, I can't imagine Snider really gives a crap about spending 2.2M.

Agreed. He was a huge part of the team last year, and I'd love to see him stick around and still be a part of the team, even while not being able to play.

Ultimately, Lappy will choose whether or not to retire. Regardless of what the Flyers decide, Lappy's cap issues will depend on his decision.

I hope he finds his way back onto a roster one day; he's one of the few that deserves to have his name on the Cup.

That makes sense, but the quoted article makes it seem like the Flyers are trying to decide which to do. That's just silly, if the Flyers truly had the option, there's not a single reason to NOT put him on LTIR.

Hopefully he gets in as a coach or something then somewhere or here.

I don't see Lappy retiring. I see him not playing this season at all, but I think he still wants to see how his injury develops.

He has been lying to himself this whole time to get himself back on the ice, even for pre-season games! I don't see him giving up just yet. He will more then likely take this whole season off and see if he can make a comeback next year.

That is just my 2 cents.

Pretty much.

Lappy has no reason to "retire"... as the only reason he isn't playing is because he blocked a slapshot with his face and has permanent nerve damage to his eye (I'd want the money, too). So, LTIR seems like the way this will go.

Yeah, the end of the artcile is poorly worded; the team is waiting on Lappy.

This damn CBA is confusing. If it's best all around that he goes on LTIR then hopefully that's the end result..makes the most sense. Man this situation is like when the insurance premium surcharge on a car accident expires (3 years) and then you quickly get into another at fault accident and are on the hook another 3 years and yes I speak from experience....

The other thing with LTIR, the Flyers aren't in a rush to do that either. They can make it retroactive if they want to make a trade down the road, and can replace his salary. That will come in handy as an option if they want to trade for someone like, say, Marty Reasoner (UFA making $1.15M w/ Florida).

This ****ing sucks. I hope he gets better, but it doesn't sound too good. It actually sounds kinda Ashbee-esque, who also retired from an eye injury after being struck by the puck. A heart and soul character taken out of the game by injury.

I only wish Lappy could play a little longer, or that we had acquired him earlier. I'm actually on the verge of tears here

How about he replaced Tim Pan as the beat writer?

Or at least a few of his teeth.

If he gets sent down, his cap hit (minus 100k, according to the capgeek faq) stays with the Flyers due to his 35+ contract, so it doesn't help a whole lot anyway.

Well this sucks to hear. Lappy is the heart of this team.

As for the LTIR since hes on a 35+ contract isn't his cap hit on the books no matter what?

That would be rather pointless. 35+ contracts only get 100k taken of from the cap hit, if they are waived and sent down.

No. It is only if he retires. But LTIR can affect cap space for trade deadline deals I believe.
