Nope. LTIR applies to 35+ contracts. It's the only real workaround, because it implies the player is TRYING to play but he just can't, so you get the cap relief.

When he got hurt last time someone made a huge get well soon thing so all the fans could write to Lappy.

Can we do this again so we can all tell him how much we appreciate him laying his body (and life potentially) on the line to bring a Cup back to Philly?

When the Flyers announced last week that Ian Laperriere was out indefinitely with post-concussion syndrome, and that he had been having symptoms all through the summer and training camp, it wasn’t inconceivable to assume Laperriere could miss the entire season.

And right now, odds are, Laperriere will miss the entire season.

"It’s been almost six months since I was hit, and I don’t feel any better," Laperriere told Comcast SportsNet's Lisa Hillary. "I’m not depressed, but there will be moments when the season starts that I wish I was there."

Laperriere has two injuries: one to his eye and one to his brain. And though nothing official has been decided about his future in the NHL, he said he would "be lying if I didn't think about retirement."
Quote:
Instead, the Flyers left goalie Michael Leighton on injured reserve, along with Laperriere, while loaning Andreas Nodl to the Phantoms, giving them 22 players.

Now here’s the catch: General manager Paul Holmgren said that on Thursday morning, the club would “most likely” place Leighton on LTIR, then move Nodl back to the Flyers in time to take warm-ups in Pittsburgh for tomorrow’s season opener.

Why do this? Because Leighton is likely going to miss at least 10 games or 24 days, so he can go on LTIR.

Why not Laperriere? Because there is no timetable and if the Flyers put him on the list now, he’ll likely stay on it the entire season.

“We just don’t know yet,” Holmgren said of Laperriere.

Right, and they can't bring him off unless they're under the cap.

Your tongue in cheek wise cracks aren't welcome here. This is a thread for saluting a warrior (and discussing his possible cap implications ).

****!

I smell a retirement.

I was at game 3 when he got a standing O. It was pretty awesome. I think the guy was at a loss of words, and I believe he had no idea what was going to happen when they showed on the big screen.

I am a Ranger fan who attended that game. When it happened I felt my heart completely drop and immediately feared the worst for Laperriere. To my disbelief, Devils fans started clapping and cheering all around me. Completely outraged, I stood up and yelled "Are you ****ing kidding me?". Classless garbage fanbase. I know for a fact if that had happened at the garden the crowd would have been dead silent(I have seen bad injuries happen to apposing teams players there as well). I hope most Devils fans who were cheering just weren't paying attention, and didn't realize the severity of the injury. I wish the best to Lappy he has always been one of the players I respect most in the game.

I'm pretty sure LTIR=no cap hit regardless of age or contract.

I hope Snider and the organization offer him a position.

Quite frankly, I think Lappy would be a great developmental coach.

Not to mention, I think that, even in one season, he has earned a night dedicated to him.

Godspeed, Lappy. If multiple doctors are telling you to not get on the ice again, just don't do it.

Truth, it is hard to not at least respect Ian for all he has done throughout his career, even if he is on a division rival.

I can't find a Youtube to verify, but when Roenick got hit by a puck and his jaw pretty much exploded at MSG, I do not recall any Rangers fans cheering (until JR was on his way off the ice as a sign of respect). I remember watching the television screen (in shock) and thinking it was eerily silent at the Garden.

I think Laperriere sets the the bar for sacrifice. He gave it his all game in and game out. Seriously, it has been a privilege watching him play. It has been an honor watching him play for the Flyers. Though his stay has been short (and shortened), he will go down as one of my all-time favorite Flyers, no doubt about it. You just can't make or find guys like Laperriere. What he does takes something that isn't within everyone. Lappy just has the heart and the passion. He isn't the flashiest player, but I'll be damned if he isn't one of the most inspiring guys I've ever seen.

Sucks balls - I guess he will have to lift the cup in his street clothes if he doesn't play.

Cap hit ******** aside, this is so true. I'm very sorry this happened to him, and I almost feel a little guilty that he sacrificed himself for our team - and got so close.

I'm still getting his jersey, and I will wear it with pride.

It's amazing the effect you can have on a fan base in only one year.
