I think we determined Parent had played too many games in the last two season to miss out on re-entry. Peters, however; seems to fall below the money limit so I think he may be ineligible for re-entry.

As far as Grabner, seems Islander injuries forced their hand. Look today at Parent, another first round pick, sailing through waivers as are many other players around the league. This is not NHL '11 Sparky...real world and things don't happen they way your joystick dictates.
If this means Cowan is gone, I am happy. Hordichuk is tough, and can actually play a semi-regular shift. When with Nashville he always seemed to score against the Canucks, too.

They had him before, though, and figure they're getting back the same player that left them when he was 24. They'll find out the reality soon enough.
Ya, I'm aware of the difference between waivers & re-entry waivers.
The point is that he has already gone through waivers to get sent down, so to recall him - he'd have to go through re-entry waivers - which is what the question to Murphy was.
Can Parent be recalled without passing through waivers? Peters?

Murphy was asked if he had to clear waivers, he does.
If his AHL salary is $105,000 or less (I think) its regular waivers, if the salary is greater than $105,000 the player has to clear re-entry waivers.
Peters does not have to clear re-entry waivers. He may have to go through waivers again though depending on the time and games played etc that determine waiver eligibility.

Well, a couple of our comments were right...he was certainly better as a scrapper than Cowan.
I seem to remember being pleased when Gillis signed Hordichuk and I thought his first season here was actually pretty decent. Last year, I don't think he brought a lot toughness and was sort of useless once Rypien showed that he was not only a better all-around player but a better fighter too. It seems like his reputation as a tough guy has really deteriorated over the past couple of seasons too.
I like this move though, there aren't a whole lot of heavyweights out there who can take a regular shift too. If you can't have one of those guys, I'd rather have a guy who knows his role and doesn't have delusions of grandeur.
I like the move. If he does end up with the team he's much cheaper on a better contract and is a great team guy while being a slightly better fighter then Hordi. Good move.
Man, if we get Sundin...Sundin-Sedin-Kesler-Johnson would be the best group of centers in the division...
Edit - Hey, I wonder if the Backes offer sheet had anything to do with Johnson being available. Andy Strickland says that the salary the Blues were negotiating Backes was in the $1.2 million range...we just doubled it, Backes and Johnson play similar roles for the Blues, and we sign Johnson for about the difference...
I'm starting to see that enforcers need the threat of demotion every once in a while to re-enforce what they are brought in for. Brashear, Laraque et all forget what their role is and end up being useless.
If not challenged or threatened, they become expendable. A comfortable enforcer is as good as gone.

I know a 2-way deal has no impact on waiver eligibility but can somebody (i.e. Wetcoaster lol) clear up what exactly exempts you from passing through waivers once you've done so already?
Perrault and Tambellini don't have to go through re-entry waivers if they get called up IIRC.. I'd imagine it's their salary that dictates that?
