I think this game is a good gauge to see just how improved Burke's "improved" Leafs actually are... If they can't beat us without Cammalleri, Markov, Hamrlik and now it appears Price.... It's not a good start to their season.

A season lasts 82 games. Thats more than 5 times as many as an NFL season, so a single game isn't necessarily indicative of how an entire season will go,

To think I had already grown my playoff beard and everything?

It doesn't change the fact that on paper they should be able to beat us... Failing to do so, isn't a good start.

By definition losing any Game One isn't a good start.

Just trying to fill out the thread a bit...and I wouldn't worry too much, we got into the playoffs and did pretty well despite that lacklustre evening.

its pro sports, any team can beat any team, on any given night. Souds real cliché but it's true. Habs beat the Pens last year with guys like Desharnais, Trotter etc in the lineup.

No need to make this game bigger than it is, it's as big as any game in an NHL schedule.

0-5 is a bad start, 0-1 is just 0-1...

I agree with that..

But let's face it, they did improve their top 6 with the acquisition of Versteeg and the additions of MacArthur and Armstrong will help too. Without Cammalleri in the lineup I still think we have the edge in offense, but with the loss of Markov-Hamrlik their blueline is surely superior and not having Price (it seems) also gives them a clear cut advantage in the crease. Not to mention they are on home ice, so they will have every opportunity imaginable to put Steeger/Kessel up against the likes of Picard and O'Byrne.

We will have to rely heavily on Gill-Gorges defensively and Spacek-Subban for the breakout.

I think we can all agree that if the Leafs we're without Kessel, Phaneuf, Kaberle and Giguere for tomorrow... We'd be terribly disapointed if we lost to them, correct?

I know it's one game and anything can happen, but I am not going into tomorrow expecting the Habs to win. That's my personal opinion, however pessimistic it may be.

I'm pretty sure Hanson was sent down. Their 4th line center will likely be Zigomanis or Mitchell.

but where are you seeing that we open on Oct 7.. and is there any other additional info regarding the schedule.
The Habs' schedule is a tightly-guarded secret. This is at Markov's request. The players are being housed in an underground bunker at the Brossard "Training" Complex, and do not know when or where they will play next.

When the "Go" order is received and confirmed by Brossard Command, an alarm, which sounds like the "arrrwouuuut"! alarm in submarine movies, sends players running to a fleet of Bombardier jump jets, which can have them at any NHL arena in three hours. If the game is at the Bell Centre, the players travel in a fleet of Bombardier buses. This also takes three hours, owing to traffic on the Champlain Bridge.

Of course, every other NHL team and their local media know the entire NHL schedule. However, Habs management is shrewdly aware that their fans' only information sources are the Journal de Montréal, Gazette and Antichambre. Blacking out these three media has effectively stopped all schedule information from entering Quebec.

I'm risking my life telling you this, but yes Habs play October 7.

Everything always goes to **** for the first game....

Price sick
Markov out
Hammer out
Cam suspended

last year it was Markov again

Christ, why do we even bother playing the first game of the season vs the leafs? IT's like the NHL does it on purpose to give them 2 pts out of the gate.

We're gonna lose 1-2 and people will be lining up on jqes cartier

How much ice time do you think Eller will get the first 5 games? Is he being talked about as if he is going to be on the team the whole year?
