I updated the salary info with Adam Burish and Andrew Raycoft.

Also, I added another team payroll. Team Payroll A is based on Avery counting against the team's internal budget which seemed to be the case a few weeks ago. Team Payroll B is based on Stars' salary without Avery's re-entry which seems to be the way could be calculating it now. How knows .....

I'll add prospect contracts later, but I do know Severin Blindenbacher's cap hit will be $1,112,500. Breakdown on this would be $900,000 salary ($90,000 of that is a signing bonus) along with $212,500 of A bonuses (unconfirmed this is an A bonus).

When a player gets the full A bonus of $850,000, it's typically broken down into 4 payouts of $212,500. Each payout is earned if 1 of the A bonus categories is reached. Therefore, to earn the full $850,000, that player has to complete 4 A bonus categories. In Severin's case, it looks like the Stars gave him a one time bonus payment of $212,500 for completing any category of the A bonuses for a defenseman.

Gagnon re-signs one year deal at $600k or $85k if he plays in the AHL.

There's not a Grossman thread so I guess it makes sense in here:

Nicklas Grossman's agent and Dallas have been working on a contract, but they had to put it on hold for Fabian's arbitration. Now that it's settled, according to Heika, his agent expects to open up talks. Sounds like Nicklas could be the next to ink, and Heika is saying the Stars are looking for $2 million.

What do you think about a 3 year deal worth $6 million? Pay him $1.5, $2, and $2.5 on a backloaded contract.

Now see in this case what the Stars are offering is more than fair. They absolutely should not budge.

Considering Grossman had the arbitration option, he and his agent must have felt the same way. Otherwise, I imagine they would have taken the team to arbitration. They must have felt pretty confident about the negotiations.

$2 million per year for however long he would want to sign sounds like a good number for Grossman. They definitely need to stagger the end of his contract with the end of Fistric's though.

I finally updated the chart with Grossman's info.

Based on his contract, the internal budget can't include Sean Avery's re-entry money. No counting Avery's $2 million, Dallas has $2.815 million left under the $45 million budget to pay James Neal and Matt Niskanen.

1 more mill should get it done. Hell half a mill might.

I don't feel like we have a whole lot of options on how to remedy that. Let's hope it's not a hard 'go over it and die' cap and just a let's aim for this, if it affects the future I'll allow it...

Or this could be an understanding that Hicks will be out before he has to worry about paying these salaries.

2010-11Salary CapTeam Payroll
Forwards$33,388,334$30,435,000
Defense$11,750,000$11,850,000
Goal$4,200,000$3,400,000
Re-Entry$1,937,500N/A
Total$51,275,834$45,685,000
Cap/Salary Limit$59,400,000$45,000,000
Cap/Salary Space$8,124,166-$685,000

They are only $685,000 over their assumed internal budget. However, Dallas is carrying 14 forwards (+Cheechoo). They only carried 13 forwards when everyone was healthy last year. IMO, two forwards will be gone by the time Dallas plays a regular season game.

So who is fighting for a job? Let's assume new ownership will not be in place in the next month, and Dallas isn't going to add salary. So, we're just looking to dump salary.

Can we all agree that Brad Richards, Mike Ribeiro, Loui Eriksson, Brenden Morrow, Steve Ott, James Neal, Adam Burish, Jamie Benn, and Tom Wandell will not be cut to save money?

Now, I know people in general aren't fans of their re-signings, but I doubt Krys Barch or Toby Petersen are in danger either.

This leaves Brian Sutherby ($850,000), Fabian Brunnstrom ($675,000), Brandon Segal ($550,000 NHL/$130,000 AHL), and Jonathan Cheechoo (Unknown) fighting for 2 spots (and gives Dallas 13 forwards).

IMO, Brian Sutherby should be pretty concerned. I like him .... when he's on the ice, but he obviously has a little issue with staying on the ice. Plus, he's not exactly endeared himself to the new guys (Joe and Crow). Why pay him $850,000 to be the 14th forward when you can rotate in prospects to fill in for injuries while testing their NHL-readiness.

Now, that leaves us with Cheech, Fabio, and the Dane Cook look-a-like (still dont see it). I think Joe and Crow would love to give Cheechoo a job. Everyone says hes a great guy, good for the locker room, and works his a** off. I think those qualities and minimal success in the pre-season will find him in a Stars jersey Game 1. Hopefully, hes signing a two-way contract. I dont want the guy to fail, but I just have a feeling this is a project that wont work out. If it doesnt, Dallas gets a chance to allow Sceviour, Gagnon, Vincour, or some other surprise to try and make the jump to the NHL.

As much as Id love to see him get one more chance with Ribs, I dont think Joe or Crow are even considering giving Brunno the chance. His days are numbered, and hopefully Dallas can pick up another mid/late round pick for him.

I like Segal as the 13th forward, and I think the Stars will as well. Hes cheap, and works hard when hes given an opportunity. I imagine he could even steal some games from Barch and Petersen (kinda like they rotated Woywitka and Fistric for a while).

This ended up being longer than I expected ... lol. Sorry.

I have a question. We all know the Stars' payroll is extremely low, at 45.7 mil. Is there anywhere that lists all the teams' payrolls, ranked from top to bottom? What Capgeek lists as payroll is actually cap hit.

IMO, NHL Numbers is not a reliable site. They don't even have correct info for Dallas right now.

That said, they do list payroll on the team page. I didn't see a list for all teams (wasn't on team comparison). If you feel like clicking on every team, you could figure out who has a similar payroll as Dallas.

Like I said though, don't count on anything being 100% accurate on that site.
