YOUR season preview

Instead of bashing TSN and all, how about your predictions as far as the standings in both Eastern and Western Conference? I'm not set yet but I figured a lot of people were, so it would be interesting to hear up front.

The Maple Leafs will win the Cup!

TSN said so.

I keep seeing the Pens up there in every prediction. I predict they don't make the playoffs this year in spite of Crosby and Malkin.

Fleury is good, not great most of the time. Their defence is ok. Good but not great. But their offence is seriously lacking after Crosby and Malkin. During my hockey draft on Tuesday, out of 196 players chose, 3 were Pens (Crosby and Malkin in the first round and Kunitz in the 11 round). Their two guns are incredible but I'm not sure if they can carry the team once again. And if one of the two goes down, they're done. Staal is out for a couple of months and his filler is Comrie. Ouch!

Me too i feel the same way about the Pens.. I'm trying to see why everybody keeps on picking them for the cup or even the stanley cup finals.. Besides Crosby and Malkin... i don't see alot of dept and on Defense.. they lost GOnchar.... Fleury is an above average goalie but.. stilll

Habs beat them last year without Markov... I believe Habs can beat them again in a 7 games series.. yet the Experts don't even have us in the playoffs.. I wont go as far as saying the Pens will miss the Playoffs but i dont see them making it in the Finals..

I think Washington are ready to make it to the next level... Boston could suprise and make it to the cup this year!

Actually, since they added Michalek and Martin, I think their defence is excellent. They are weak on the wings, but have the best top 3 centre combo in the league. They play a tough, physical game, that can overpower smaller opponents. Fleury is a hot and cold goalie, but is usually solid enough for 35-40 plus wins. They are in a tough division, and may not win it, but I think they’ll be easily over 100 points.

As for predictions in the east:

1. Washington
2. Pittsburgh
3. Buffalo
4. New Jersey
5. Philly
6. Boston
7. Montreal
8. Ottawa
9. Tampa
10. Atlanta
11. Toronto
12. Carolina
13. Rangers
14. Islanders
15. Florida

I'm thinking both the Atlantic and the Northeast divisions are gonna be close this year (that is for the top three and four teams). Carolina, Florida and Islanders are gonna be the league's three worst teams.

East:

New Jersey
Washington
Buffalo
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Boston
Ottawa
Montreal
--------------------------------
Tampa Bay
Atlanta
New York Rangers
Toronto
Carolina
Florida
New York Islanders

West:

San Jose
Detroit
Vancouver
Los Angeles
Chicago
Phoenix
Anaheim
Edmonton

St. Louis
Columbus
Colorado
Calgary
Minnesota
Nashville
Dallas

I disagree I think they have very good D, I think Fleury despite being an average goalie is good enough to capitalize on this. Plus then they have Malkin and Crosby. It really isn't that hard to understand why. Michaelek, Goligoski, Letang, Martin and Orpik is bad D? Really? Give me a break you've gotta be really anti-pens to say their D isn't great.

Who said their D was bad? I said it was good, not great.

Martin
Michalek
Letang
Goligoski
Grant
Lovejoy
Engelland

To me, this D is good... not great. Sorry to be Anti-Pens buddy!

Montreal's D is critisized big time this year but I'll take our top 7 over the Pens top 7 any day.

Markov
Subban
Gill
Gorges
Hammer
Spacek
O'Byrne

Defensively on paper it's a very good d, sure you didn't say it was bad but it may as well have been implied. With people saying they don't think they'll make the playoffs I just find it laughable because they clearly will.

You are forgetting Orpik, who is a very good stay at home defencemen. While Markov is the best defensemen on either team, overall I'd take the Pens D over ours anyday.

All I'll do is put teams in groups

Top 5 of the east:
Boston, NJ, Philly, Pittsburgh and Washington

Fighting for a playoffs spot:
Montreal, Buffalo, Ottawa

Outside chance at making it:
NYR, Carolina, TB

Really really small chance at making it:
Florida, Atlanta

No chance:
Islanders, Toronto

Too many things that are unpredictable for me (or anyone) to be more accurate.

When you have two players of that quality to go along with good goaltending you can still go very far. I agree that they rely on their stars a little too much but you can't go wrong with Malkin and Crosby. That's arguably 2 of the best 3 players in the game.

They've still got to be taken seriously as a contending team. We'll see how they do though because they've lost some more players and Staal is still busted up.

Losing Gonchar is going to hurt on the PP.

But if Savard is out for the whole year our division is a toss-up.
