even at the draft it was supposed to be just the top 5 or 6 guys that were going to be great.

Kane, JVR, Turris, Voracek, Gagner, Alzner.

Talent quickyl drops off

I think it's WAY too early to tell. There are obviously weren't a bunch of guys who were immediately ready to contribute, but that doesn't mean it was a bad draft class.

In either case - about half the guys drafted from 10-30 usually don't have NHL careers of note, so that's important to remember.

Players in the 11-30 range who I think who will be solid NHL'ers: Sutter, Eller, Shattenkirk, Cole, Blum, Backlund, Perron.

If JvR doesn't score 50-50-100pts this season he is a bust.

Given your disdain for Carter, I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not.

I will let you think about it for a moment. Personal analysis and opinion should not be confused with disdain. Do you read any of Bill Meltzers stuff?

You are probably better of so as to not have to see Eklunds stuff.

Meltzer is the only guy who writes on the Flyers who I respect not only for his ability to use journalism in his writing, but also how he formulates his opinions. He has pretty much stated exactly my concern, maybe not as fervently, but he still has a question on Carter. Believe me when I say I want him to do well and succeed, as well as Zherdev.

Trust me when I say it is not disdain but more like Howard Eskin, just state controversial things to question people's opinions on players. There is a lot of Carter fluff in Flyers land, they see a guy who skates like the wind, can shoot, has been part of the core, and reached 46 goals just two seasons ago. But there is also a lot of things about his game that I think people can question.

He has been one of the few who has improved his faceoff %, but for a guy with his size and strength he should be able to win over 50%. He is not a great passer, never developed a one-timer/slapshot, relies on skating wide and not relying on gaining access to the zone and maintaining possession along the boards(utlizing his size and skills). He has all the tools, but like JvR I would love to see him take time out to improve other facets of his game. Defenses see eachother enough and they figure out their tendencies and force the player to go to areas that are easier to defend. It takes a little fortitude to develop other aspects of the game to take it to the next level.

I hate Crosby, but each year he works on improving a certain aspect of his game, not relying on talent alone. One year he works on faceoffs, he then becomes more proficient. Next year he works more on being a scorer, he then leads the league in goals......

I try to read Bill's stuff at night when I get home - and sometimes post on his comments threads. I was a regular on HB until work nuked it.

You nailed it with regards to his being the only Flyers writer really worthy of respect.

It's an extreme rarity that players step in and are dominant from day one, and trust me, in due time JVR will be an absolutely amazing player. He should break 50 points this year, 70 next... and as he just gets more used to the workload and builds his body up, I can easily see him being a PPG player... a 40-40 guy.

Now go eat a dick and fondle your sister, you waste of flesh.

So - because you haven't seen it in a young rookie who has not physically matured - you think he's never going to develop it? The kid is all of 21 YO, why not give him a chance?

He and Giroux are probably two of the most purely skilled players this organziation has ever seen!! I think they are both due to blow up and become stars whether that is this year or next!

Jimmy looked pretty damn alright tonight. Fast and sleek, but stronger. Could be a good year.

He made up some serious ground at one point and almost cancelled out an icing.

I said it in the GDT, but JVR looked like a man last night.

There was one play where he held off a dman with one hand and worked the puck from the side of the net to behind with the other, definitely the types of things I like to see from a guy with a unique combo of size, strength and skill.

He was also super fast and his shot seemed to explode alot more than last year.

I just wish he had more ice time... I definitely do not agree with his PP snub (even though I'm pretty sure I called that in an argument a month ago) last night either... we need that big body, especially when Pronger gets back and starts blasting.

I don't think I want JVR and his legs/feet in front of a Pronger slapper, thank you very much.
