Well I had assumed Boucher would start, but I can't say I disagree with the choice to start Bobo. I think he is better suited for the game. His nerves however are unknown, so we'll have to see how it plays out

Rumor has it he's been hanging around Doc Halladay a lot getting english lessons and learning how to prepare before a game so beware

BTW..I also see hubris in Pitt thinking they will christen their new arena with a win against the Flyers....just sayin' but here's to a competitive game.

I don't. I was always under the impression that the schedules were actually formatted years in advance, similar to the NFL. I don't know why you would think the Pens are being arogant by scheduling the Flyers. If we wanted an easy win we would have scheduled the Islanders tonight.

But as a Pens fan, I won't lie, there is no better way to christen the building than beating your instate rival...maybe the Red Wings or the Caps too

10 PP's for Pens tonight, no way Bettman allows this game to not be a W. Who are the refs tonight? If one of them is Steve Walkom the fix is in.

I'm not suggesting the Pens scheduled the Flyers at all..I'm suggesting that the expectation by Pitt fans that their new arena will be christened with a win is hubris. It just happens that they play against the Flyers which is ideal from a league standpoint and for the Pitt fans like you say. Anyway, just trying to engage in psyops...

I've been writing Forrest Griffin's book (UFC fighter) and he said back in school, fights that "just happened" he always won and fights that was "I'll see you after school" he's lose. Mainly because it was "jump in" vs. "think about all day and think about how you can mess up." Maybe this is Lavy's approach. Instead of Bob thinking about how he'll need to step up in certain games, throw him into the pool and see if he can swim.

And if he fails, Lavy has something to go off of to shut up people who say he should be playing ahead of Bouch. Whether you agree with that or not is up to you, but it will give him the "Remember Bob's last start?" excuse.

Bobrovsky got a mention in Bob McKenzie's piece today:

But that doesn't mean there aren't some intriguing rookies who maybe don't have quite the same profile, and I'll be watching a lot of them to see if they make some noise this season.

So here you go, a very personal and highly subjective list of 10 rookies, in no particular order, who didn't make the Top 10 rookies, but who, for one reason or another, could be heard from this season:

...

6. Sergei Bobrovsky of the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers are trying not to get too excited too early about the Russian goalie they call BOB, but he's coming off a good year and the KHL and the 22-year-old had the kind of training camp in Philadelphia that allows the Flyer hiearchy to dream a little. He has a great work ethic, moves well, is well liked by his teammates and he just goes about the business of stopping the puck and looking good doing it. The injury to Michael Leighton opens the door for BOB to be an early-season story so this is one of the most fascinating sidebars to this season, especially since he gets the nod over Brian Boucher as the starter in Game 1 for Philadelphia.

His talent is ridiculous. I'm sold.

There are some things to work on in his game though. He drops his right shoulder a lot and goes paddle down in the butterfly at times when he's tracking the puck after a save. It's a small thing but a decent powerplay should be able to get him in that position with the rebound on a forward's stick a couple of times a powerplay.

Like I said, it's a nitpick, the talent is obvious.

If he is consistent it'll be a steal, esp if it's a keeper leauge.

Sadly its not and i kinda did it for trade bait. I already have Niemi and Niittymaki from SJ. I just hope that they can get a confirmed starter early in the season.

His puck handling is pretty ballsy at a lot of the wrong times too, lol.

Well Lavy in his post game interview said that Bob was the starter because of his "body of work" for 30 days. Translation...he worked hard in practice AND played well in the preseason. Boosh played a good preseason but we don't know how his body of work was day in and day out....

I don't think that's what you should take away from that comment (that Boosh didn't work hard this off-season). He was commenting on what Bobrovsky did, not what Boosh didn't.

I didn't say he didn't work hard did I? I said we don't know how his body of work was (only the coaching staff does)...if it was better than Bob's though I would gather that Lavy would be saying what he did about Boosh and he would have started. Kind of seems logical...

Lavy said Bob's preparation for 30 days was very good hence his start
